Job Description


The Bridge is dynamic and growing community of disciples in Portage Michigan. We are a five-year old church plant in the Reformed Church in America Denomination.  Now with over 300 in average weekly attendance, we are actively looking for our second full time staff person who will bring leadership and vision to our growing Youth and Children Ministries.

This person needs to be centered with a strong Christian faith and filled with integrity.   This person must be responsive to the leading of The Holy Spirit. This person must have a passion for the Mission Statement and 7 Essentials of The Bridge. This person needs to be a team player, ready to work together for the good of the church family, and be able to receive critical feedback.  This person must have a servant heart, willing to serve the needs of the church community.  This person needs to be a catalyst for utilizing the gifts and talents of ‘others.’  This person must have demonstrated a passion for discipleship in both youth and children’s ministry.




•           Seminary Education and Ordination in the Reformed Church In America preferred.




  • This is a full time salaried position with benefits (including health insurance, pension, life insurance, and education allowance



40-50 hours a week 


  1. Provide Specific, Inspiring, Clear - Leadership for The Bridge’s Youth and Children’s Ministry areas.


Specifically keeping the focus of The Bridge on our mission of be one | make one for youth and children which includes birth – 12th grade.


Ensuring passionate and capable leaders are in place and trained to be effective leaders and that a continuous effort is given to disciple our children.  Management of key volunteers and other paid leaders in youth and children ministries may be necessary.


Ensuring that the best curriculum, activities, and discipleship process is functioning in alignment with our ministry goals


Lead and develop a team of leaders who provide oversight to these areas of ministry.  Specifically the Bridge Kids Leadership Team.

Specifically the Middle School Youth Team

Specifically the High School Youth Team



Provide high level direction to spiritual milestones and learning our children’s needs along with specific opportunities (like profession of faith) or other ceremonies and experience that will confirm their growth as disciples of Jesus


Give oversight to the budgeting process for these areas of ministry


2.         Relationally Love and Lead (Pastor) the children and their families at The Bridge.

To the degree possible in a growing church, be present in people’s lives, encourage spiritual growth, provide prayer and pastoral care, and be a transparent example of a life of faith.


3.         Create and maintain a Vision of Multiplication. Continually make efforts to help children and youth reach out to friends outside the church with an eye toward service and evangelism.


Other Responsibilities:


Participate as an Associate Pastor of The Bridge which might include some teaching on Sundays, participation in worship services, funerals, weddings, and other pastoral functions. 





Be directly accountable to and receive support from the Lead Pastor.

Overall accountability to the BOO (Bridge Operator and Overseer) Team. 

Specific accountability and performance review done by the Lead Pastor and HR team






To conduct oneself in a way that honors Jesus whether at home, on campus, in the community, at bridge events or participating with an online community.


Take responsibility for personal spiritual growth with spiritual disciplines of the Word, including: worship/gathering, prayer/fasting, service and tithing.


Work toward the Kingdom goal of being and making disciples – be one, make one – and focus on the main/overall goal of walking with people through intentional discipleship. 


Always seek for ways to multiply oneself and lead others into ministry with proper oversight using the “Jesus method.”


Be involved with and/or lead a Life Group.  This is an organic and purpose-filled part of who we are: teams built in all areas of ministry.


Be present and engaged at all set prayer times, Monday staff meetings, Potluck & Prayer Nights, leadership trainings, Sunday mornings and other major events as set by Leadership.


Look to approach all things with a positive and encouraging attitude, love your co-workers with forgiveness, courage and gentleness, and contribute to a fun and creative environment for the good of all.
