 TITLE:   Director (Pastor) of Assimilation and Ministry Development


REPORTS TO: Executive Pastor



Assimilation is designed to help guide and motivate people from their first visit to Shepherd’s Grove through membership.  This is done through the First Steps Experience, Small Groups, and incorporating people into various ministries.



  • Work with the Lead Pastor, Executive Pastor and the Staff Team to reach, grow and develop      fully-mature Disciples of Christ
  • Attend staff meetings to assess needs of church and various ministries
  • Take the lead in developing an end-to-end, intentional path and plan which keeps guests      moving forward from their first visit to their full assimilation into Shepherd’s Grove
  • Oversee, modify, and implement our First Steps Class and First Steps Experience
  • Track and report the progression of Assimilation
  • Create strategies to improve the percentage of people serving each week
  • Oversee the recruitment, motivation, and training of ministers and leaders
  • Develop a communication strategy to engage, inspire, equip and retain leaders and ministers
  • Develop, lead and champion teams of highly relational networkers that facilitate opportunities   and create processes to assimilate people into the life of Shepherd’s Grove
  • Recruit, train, motivate, supervise, and provide pastoral care to volunteer leaders, includes Weekend and small groups
  • Assist leaders in recruiting and building their teams
  • Establish positive relationships with leaders by regular communication and interaction with them
  • Provide for leadership development and oversee ways to communicate, support and equip leaders to become more effective in leading relationally strong teams
  • Lead at least four First Step classes/experiences launches (quarterly) and two Small Group launches per ministry year
  • Lead in developing and implementing Small Group classes throughout the week
  • Research, review and recommend resources and curriculum to leaders for Small Groups
  • Provide and oversee a  process to assimilate unconnected individuals into new to existing groups
  • Manage and monitor the Adult Education budgets throughout the year
  • Draft and submit the annual Adult Education budgets to the Executive Pastor
  • Identify and support key leaders who are willing and gifted to assist in the training



  • Masters Preferred, not required
  • Bachelors’ Degree
  • Experience in Leadership, Administration
