SENIOR PASTOR POSITION OPEN
INFORMATION & FACT SHEET REGARDING MRBC: JANUARY 2015
Our senior pastor is Russell Merrin, a Liberty Seminary graduate, who has led Monclova Road
Baptist Church for the past twenty-one years. Due to his health issues, our church is looking to secure a
senior pastor that would assume the senior pastor position upon Pastor Merrin resigning or assuming a different ministry role.
Under Pastor Merrin’s leadership, the church has grown from approximately 70 people in
weekly attendance, to over 800 in weekly attendance and completed five building projects. The
attendance average for 2013-2014 was in 700-750 range. Our numbers are presently in the 650 range.
For 2014, offerings were $2.1 million dollars with a weekly budget of $37,000. Our facilities average
approximately 50,000 square feet, including classrooms for a K-12 Christian school with a first-class high school gymnasium. Pastor Merrin is responsible for 50 employees within all related ministries. Ourchurch services are broadcast on TV and radio, which
provides us the opportunity to reach 2.3 million people. Our church services would be viewed as a traditional worship style. Our ministries encompass an active pre-school, K-12 school, prison outreaches, Reformers Unanimous, Fair Evangelism, AWANA, Word of
Life Student Ministry, and opportunities for our adults of all ages to be involved. MRBC places a strong emphasis on personal soul-winning and spreading the Gospel in the community.
MRBC presently has three assistant pastors, one of which has been hired on an interim basis
during Pastor Merrin’s medical-leave-of-absence, and a full time youth pastor. The pastoral staff and
school administrator have educational backgrounds from Liberty Seminary, Tennessee Temple
Seminary, Hyles-Anderson College, Cedarville University, and Baptist Bible/Fort Wayne Bible College.
Our church operates as an independent Baptist Church. Our church mortgage is through North
American Baptist Convention, and by that contract, we are considered by the NAB as one of their
churches. We are not governed by the NAB; we act autonomously to govern our own affairs. The NAB
has been supportive in our ministry to operate as a local church body without interference.
The pastor that accepts the senior position must be one of vision. It is not the desire of MRBC to
stay fixed in our present numbers. We have the ability to build again, with those plans already drawn.
Our people have been taught year after year to test God, give, grow, and win the world around them.
The members expect to continue to reach out with our media advances in radio and television. Our next
pastor must be able to take our church to the next level.
As our church seeks the next senior pastor, we are focused to secure the man God desires. On
the next page, criteria are provided that we would consider necessary to obtain the senior pastor
position. We understand that God’s man for the job may not meet every qualification listed. Therefore,
if you feel God’s leading to explore this opportunity and you meet 90% of the criteria, please submit a
cover letter and resume to the attention of the Pastoral Staff/Advisory Board of Monclova Road Baptist
Church. We would ask that you read our statement of faith online and submit a separate letter stating
your agreement with that. If there is an area that you are not in agreement, please identify that with an
explanation. We are asking that you also submit three references from ministerial contacts. After
review, if you are chosen for further consideration, you will be contacted regarding the next step of our
