About St Tom in the Hay

St Tom in the Hay is situated in an area in Northern Virginia that has and will continue to experience large population growth. Our church believes that we are all a part of a story; sometimes we see ourselves as the main characters, sometimes we think we are bystanders with little control over the outcome. In reality we are each a part of a much grander story, an adventure if you will. It’s a story full of promise, and hope, a story that holds meaning for the lives we live, and the people we were intended to be. We are inviting the community of Haymarket, VA to join us for this journey of discovery. As part of our staff team, your role will be to help equip this community— through training, developing, teaching, and resourcing— to find their place in God’s story.

  • Passionate, enthusiastic, and authentic follower of Jesus
  • Significant experience in children’s ministry leadership or comparable leadership within a childhood development field
  • Strong team leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Intermediate computer knowledge, including experience with MS Office Suite and email, and have the ability to learn and adapt to computer programs used in conjunction with the administering of this ministry
  • Solve practical problems using a wide range of resources
  • Be enthusiastic, energetic, and have an encouraging personality
  • Be a self-initiator with a desire to help people learn their place in God’s story
  • Be a flexible team player
  • Capture and participate in the overarching vision for St Tom in the Hay

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and Equip volunteers to create, implement, and manage opportunities for children to learn God’s story and begin an understanding of their place in His story and how they can begin to serve and bless others through activities that include but are not limited to: Sunday School, fellowship, missions, retreats, and outreach
  • Invite, train, coordinate, and support volunteers for all children’s ministry areas
  • Source, prepare, and distribute curriculum materials to Sunday School teachers
  • Learn and maintain database in the Planning Center program (used to coordinate volunteer scheduling and Sunday morning student check-ins)
  • Direct, manage, and oversee volunteers for all set up/tear down efforts as needed for Sunday school classes and nursery
  • Maintain attendance records and communicate data to the appropriate staff on a weekly basis
