Fellowship Bible Church is currently in search of a humble, teachable, and joyful team member who has the passion and experience to equip our church family in effective ways to love, serve, and share the person and work of Jesus Christ in personally, local, and international environments. We would welcome your help in encouraging, supporting and affirming our ministry partners, as well as building new partnerships for the future. FBC is a thriving, non-denominational church with a weekly attendance of over 2,000 folks in Topeka, KS, which is located one hour west of Kansas City. FBC is a youthful church, with an average age of 29, and composed of many young families and children.



Outreach Pastor – February 2015

Synopsis of Role: We are looking for a joyful team member who has the passion and experience to

equip our church family in effective ways to share their faith personally, locally and internationally.

Vision for Role: The vision of this role is transformed lives, reaching people and places, to leave a Godly



Key Responsibilities –The following responsibilities are listed in order of priority.

1. Stewarding Vision This role will implement strategies we believe will accomplish our objectives in

reaching people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The three major divisions of this role are personal

outreach, local outreach, and international outreach. This leader will steward a vision that includes

the following ideas:

o You and Two: each family member of FBC is personally sharing the gospel with two people for

a response to the person and work of Jesus Christ.

o Asking God for a major spiritual awakening in Topeka of 18,000 people.

o Leading a two-year ministry plan asking God to use us to reach the lost for Christ.

o Advancing the gospel through ministry partners locally and internationally.

o Working with other churches to serve and share Christ to our city.

o Prayerful consideration of options for planting churches in our area.

2. Equipping Believers This leader will be a leader of leaders. They will graciously love our church

family where they are and equip them to love, serve and share with others the person and work of

Jesus Christ. This includes:

o Equipping us in sharing the gospel in a clear, concise, and compelling way.

o Equipping us for serving and sourcing local ministries outside of FBC with ministry leaders.

o Developing leaders to lead outreach ministries inside and outside of FBC.

o Developing leaders who will leave FBC and advance the gospel internationally.

3. Deepening Relationships This leader will encourage, support and affirm current ministry partners as

well as build new relationships for future ministry partners. This includes:

o Working closely with our Local Outreach Director to meet regularly with our ministry

partners and communicate our support, love them, encourage and affirm them as we serve

with them.

o Travel globally (2X/year) to sustain and build deeper relationships with our global partners.

o Connect relationally with our church family to disciple believers in personal evangelism and

local and international outreach.

o Keep short accounts by resolving conflict quickly and graciously with all our partners.

o Provide counsel and support to partners going through trials, suffering or challenge.

4. Providing Experiences This leader will provide enough opportunities for half our church family to be

involved in ministry outside of FBC. This will include:

o Providing frequent role-playing workshops for people to sharpen their skills on sharing their

faith authentically with their friends and family.

o Local one-time experiences with our local partners through Love Topeka and Sharefest.

o International and local short-term (three days to two weeks) experiences for over 150 people a


o Leading through personal experience a life that shares the gospel of Jesus on a regular basis

and calls others to do so.

5. Working Well on a Leadership Team This leader will work well on a close and supportive team

leading towards a unified and aligned vision for ministry together. This includes:

o Working collaboratively with Lead Pastor, Pastor of Ministries, staff team, Local Ministry

coordinators and connectors to develop and implement ministry functions.

o Designing effective plans and systems to align with the mission, vision, values and objectives set by

elder leadership.

o Modeling grace by loving, assuming the best of others on the team, keeping short accounts,

and affirming and encouraging others who serve with you.

o Cultivating a life-giving culture that is safe and supportive in all areas of ministry.

o Living what we lead others to follow. This pursues a consistent walk with the Spirit, a

consistent prayer life, continual dependence on grace, cultivating a servant-heart for others, a

strong team work ethic, flexibility, teachable hearts and minds, authentic love for the lost and

a desire to see them know Christ, a balanced relational life with family and others, and a

balanced financial condition practicing biblical stewardship and generosity.

6. Pastoral Skills This leader will use pastoral skills in leading and caring for our church family.

o Be able to teach congregation scriptural basis for outreach.

o Communicate, inspire, and exhort others in the area of outreach ministries.

o Disciple our church family in missional living and understanding ministries outside the walls

of the church building.

o Perform the pastoral functions necessary for the on-going good of the church: weddings,

funerals, baptisms, communion, and worship events.

7. Administration This leader will be effective in working diligently making the best use of time and

attention to accomplish their objectives and strategies in ministry.

o Implement vision and mission as determined by church leadership.

o Arrange, organize, and set time frames for outreach opportunities both locally and


o Develop and implement systems for the involvement and investment of leaders that is simple,

progressive, intuitive and clear.

o Monitor and assess outreach programs striving for excellence in all areas.

o Assume responsibility and direction in all outreach areas, providing feedback to the

Leadership Team when appropriate.


Work Environment Our staff team at FBC cultivates thriving relationships of trust, respect, and love as we

serve the Lord and others together. The following areas help us provide a life-giving environment:

• Leadership Structure: As an elder led church family, our staff determines the strategies and

priorities necessary to accomplish the ministry objectives of the elder team. This position serves as

a primary pastoral role for the major ministry initiatives of FBC. The four key pastoral leadership

roles are worship, discipleship, family and outreach. These four roles work closely together and

report to the Pastor of Ministry and Lead Pastor.

• Culture: FBC desires to encourage and support staff in an authentic and joyful ministry together.

We desire each staff person to be fulfilled and thriving in his or her relationship with God, spouse

(if married), and family (if children). FBC is experiencing exponential growth, which means in

many cases, exponential change. We are here to facilitate a ministry with people and resources so

each thrives in a cohesive and effective ministry.

• Salary: We endeavor to provide a salary package that takes the emphasis away from meeting

material needs and frees time to serve the Lord, family and others with passion, focus, excellence

and creativity. We encourage growth that will challenge, encourage and refresh staff personally,

as well as the respective ministries of oversight.

Wages are determined by the scope of the position and the experience of each applicant.

Information on wages and available benefits attributed to this position (such as vacation, paid sick

leave, holiday pay, insurance programs, retirement, etc.) will be discussed separately.

This position includes a base salary, housing allowance, medical insurance, and a matching

retirement plan.
