The story of First Baptist Church Lavaca is an incredible story of perseverance, growth, and vitality. The third Sunday of June in 1860, First Baptist Church (FBC) of Lavaca, Arkansas, was organized.  It was originally named Oak Bower Baptist Church until about 1930.  In 1872, the citizens of Oak Bower built a box house to be used by both the Methodists and the Baptists.  It was also used as the schoolhouse.  In 1886, the Baptists entered their first building and have been building into the lives of people ever since.

FBC, with its strong Baptist roots, has become known in the region and beyond for reaching families and individuals and equipping them with a biblical understanding and worldview.  FBC is located in the heart of downtown Lavaca and offers ample parking with room for expansive growth in the future as God leads.  FBC’s average Sunday morning attendance is 550, which includes traditional families, single-parent families, singles, and seniors.  FBC's attendance reflects the diverse community and has a mix of new families and young adults, as well as families who have lived in the area for generations.  The church consistently draws visitors and new attendees from its surrounding community because it is intentional about reaching out into the world for the sake of Christ.

The Children’s Pastor is responsible for developing and implementing a creative Children’s Ministry of reaching, teaching, and ministering to children, birth through 6th grade.  While partnering with parents, this pastoral position will strategically strengthen and equip young families to raise their children with Christ-like love.

The successful candidate will have the heart of a servant and be called to ministry.  They will have a proven track record of working in a setting committed to reaching the unreached with a high degree of innovation, recruitment, and retention of new members. They will have had a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience leading a children’s ministry, preferably in a setting similar to that of FBC.  Proven experience in creative thinking and problem solving is strongly preferred. Organizational skills are very important as are the ability to implement of ideas.

Incorporated in 1919, Lavaca is a city located in Sebastian County, Arkansas, with a population of 2,200 people.  Lavaca can trace its roots to the need for a stop for soldiers traveling along the Arkansas River.  From its start as a landing in new and undiscovered territory, Lavaca is now a community filled with subdivisions, modern houses, and winding streets, serving as a bedroom community of Fort Smith, the second-largest city in Arkansas.
