Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Jeff Allred and I am the lead pastor at Journey Church in Sallisaw, OK. I am personally writing this listing and I'm fully committed to the hiring process. I've been in ministry fulltime since 1993. I've
served 12 years as a youth pastor, pastoring groups as large as 450 students. In 2005 my wife and I and our two small children moved to Sallisaw to take the lead pastoral role at this church. At that time the church had one service with about 80 adults. During
our time here, our church has grown to 3 Sunday morning services and 600+ active members. God has done some great things, but He’s not finished here yet. He has given us great vision for the future. We desire to be the catalyst to bring significant churches
all throughout our surrounding 7-county area. If you are interested in being a part of something like that then let me share a little about who we are and what we are looking for in a person to fill this role on our team.
WHO WE ARE
OUR HISTORY: Journey Church started in 2001 with a small group of people who wanted to see a church where it didn’t matter who you were, what you had done, what you wore, or what your social status was… you were going to feel welcomed and
loved. This was a huge shift for such a traditional area. We have remained true to this heart and vision and Journey Church has experienced God's favor and growth. We want to love the unlovable and reach the unreachable for the cause of Christ; all while
continuing to mature the saints through discipleship.
OUR CHURCH: Journey Church is a progressive, hard-hitting, passionate church. We love worship and want to go even deeper. We are a contemporary church in a traditional area. I'm looking for someone who can skillfully bridge the gap between
the two. This means intense, passionate, contemporary worship and an occasional hymn.
Our building is a 20k s/f grocery store, which we now own. Our worship center seats 300. We have plans to build a 600-seat worship center soon on 13 acres in town that is paid off as well. If you are chosen to be our worship pastor, you
would very likely be a part of the final stages of design and building. (I'm looking for someone with some skill in the technical arts... sound, lighting, media, etc.)
OUR TEAM: We have a full staff consisting of a youth pastor, children's pastor, secretary, administrator and some support staff. We are a family! And I mean it! I'm looking to add someone to this family, and I take that very seriously.
We have an existing worship team led by volunteers and made up of 16 people. Our talent base has greatly increased and everyone is fully committed.
OUR COMMUNITY: Sallisaw is a small community of 9,000 people in eastern Oklahoma. We are the county seat of Sequoyah County which is around 40,000. We are 1-hour southeast of Tulsa and 40 minutes west of Fort Smith, Arkansas right off of
You should know, ministry in rural areas is a bit harder than larger cities. Everything you do matters! We are here in this smaller community to make a significant impact. We take community involvement very seriously and our entire staff, elders and members
are active in many areas within our community, school and local government. We are here for the long haul and looking to complete our team and make an even greater impact. We believe we could reach 1000 people and branch out to satellite locations within
the next couple of years. (Insight into this area would be an added bonus.)
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
I'm not looking to just hire anyone. I'm not looking for fancy degrees but I'm looking for
HEART and EXPERIENCE! I need someone who understands being a team player, values hard work and is passionate about their calling to lead people into transformational worship! You would need to be willing to commit 3-5 years to the work here
Worship Pastor: The most important thing for you to understand is I'm looking for a worship PASTOR! I need someone with a pastor's heart, who cares about people and is committed to relational discipleship. I want someone who is full of
the Holy Spirit and longs to connect others to the heart of God. As a worship pastor on our staff you would need to be multi-faceted. I'm specifically looking for someone who is skilled in one or both - Creative and/or Technical Arts. Let me define.
- Creative arts: I would love someone who has an eye for what works. Someone not afraid to mix it up and who thinks about the big picture, not just the song selection, but the creative elements, service flow, transitions, drama, etc. We
love creativity and use a lot of it! We have a lot of volunteers working in many of these areas. They long for leadership and vision and are more than willing to stay up late, work hard and dream big.
- Technical arts: All the stuff with buttons! We use pro presenter and Planning Center Online. We have dual projectors, lots of par cans, LED pars, and some intelligent fixtures. We are currently using an analog Mackie board but have
researched the digital transition quite a bit. I've not pulled the trigger on any upgrades because I want the worship pastor to have input and be involved in the selection, installation, training and implementation process. we also video our services. Our
set up has some high quality parts and some that need to be upgraded. There are a lot of technical things to oversee and a lot of volunteers to lead and care for.
Again, you may not function at a high level in both of those areas, but I'm looking for someone who can add value and leadership to at least one - technical or creative.
FINAL THOUGHT: Now that you’ve read all about us it is important for you to know that I'm not much for sales pitches. I want the truth. I would rather you undersell yourself and then get here and blow my mind! We are not here to play
games. We desire to make an impact for His Kingdom. Want to join us?
