  1. 1.                          PRIMARY PURPOSE:


The Student Minister shall serve and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of the Mission/Vision of FBC Jacksonville: “To glorify God by loving all people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.” (Matthew 22:36-40; Matthew 28:19-20)




Student Minister Responsibilities are to work in conjunction with all FBC Jacksonville Ministries as a whole. Student Minister Reports and answers directly to the Family Ministry Pastor. Student Minister is effectively working to champion and implement the vision of the Family Ministry Pastor and overall functions of FBC Jacksonville:


  • Facilitate weekly student worship services, which includes teaching up to 90% of the time, as well as coordinating all logistical aspects of ministry (set up, tear down, scheduling, programming, etc)
  • Be able to verbally communicate scripture and Biblical principles effectively through weekly teaching and preaching.
  • Oversee all programing, staff and budget needs for Student Ministry.
  • Maintain integrity and confidentiality in all sensitive matters with excellence and understanding.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for reaching families in the community to help them find their way back to God and get connected to FBCJAX
  • Oversee and implement a strategy for grouping students in a consistent LifeGroups.
  • Develop vision, direction, systems, and leaders for the Student Ministry which complements our church’s DNA.
  • Oversee plan for future needs concerning staff, programming, curriculum, supplies and budgets.
  • Be a flexible and teachable team player.
  • Work with and lead Student Ministry staff.  Be responsible for making them better leaders.
  • Plan, execute and review trips and events.
  • Model Christ-like leadership to kids, families, co-workers, and the church.
  • Attend all weekend worship experiences.
  • Champion the wins for Family Ministry to the families, staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee and delegate all ministry operations. Connect weekly with your team, teachers, and coaches through emails, phone calls and/or 1 on 1 meeting.  
  • Prepare curriculum for each program and each age level. This includes large group as well as LifeGroup environments.
  • Be willing to speak into and implement the direction and vision established by the Family Ministry Pastor for Student Ministry.
  • Regularly invest in the lives of the students and their families.
  • Be able to work well with others – team culture.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all computer programs used for check in and daily operations.
  • Be the main point of contact for families and students.
  • Ensure that ministry events are accomplishing their established wins. 
  • Implement the Family Ministry Partnership Plan.
  • Communicate vision for Family Ministry and Student Ministry.





  • Lead leadership training and oversee volunteer process for Student Ministry. 2 trainings per year.
  • Ensure all teams are adequately staffed within healthy ratios at all times.
  • Recruit and train high capacity leaders who love building relationships with students.
  • Oversee the volunteer system and modify as needed.


4.            BUDGET


  • Understand and implement the Student Ministry budget.
  • Report all spending to Family Ministry Coordinator.





  • Attend Family Ministry and Ministry specific team meetings as requested and necessary. This may require occasional evening hour attendance.  (Every Monday morning)
  • Attend All Staff Meetings (every other week Monday morning) or as scheduled and as well as other misc. meetings (as needed).
  • When called upon by staff and approved Family Ministry Pastor be willing to perform such tasks that might not be considered part of the normal position description.




  • Must have a Student Ministry related experience for a minimum of five years.
  • Possess at least one year experience leading Student Ministry of 100 or more students.
  • Strong organizational skills and given to detail, with excellent oral and written communication skills across all levels of an organization, both staff and volunteer.
  • Experience preferred in working with and managing volunteers, as well as a large and diverse team.
  • Possess strategic thinking while remaining focused on the accomplishment of current departmental priorities.
  • Be a strong communicator with attentive listening skills and a solid work ethic.
  • Must possess a high degree of flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and organization.
  • Strong self-directive skills, including the ability to accomplish significant goals through team dynamics.
  • Must be able to manage the ministry and staff by utilizing highly developed communication (written and verbal), project and time management as well as collaboration skills.
  • Possess a strong gift set in Leadership, Administration, and Communications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform high quality within minimum supervision within assigned deadlines.
  • Must love the next generation and their families.
  • Possess a strong ability to remain focused on vision and direction.
  • Professional demeanor, approach, and appearance in actions and work style. 
  • A follower of Jesus Christ and is an active member of a biblically based church congregation or have a willingness to become a member of FBC Jacksonville.
  • Possess the ability to demonstrate a commitment to the overall mission/vision of FBC Jacksonville and exhibit a heart that “Loves God, Loves Each Other, and Loves Our World.”



7.            ATTENDANCE

  • Attend scheduled events, services and activities as necessary unless approved by Family Ministry Pastor.          
  • Maintain regular office hours within the requirements established by the Family Ministry Pastor.
  • Availability to attend meetings (when necessary) outside of normal office hours
  • Attend and maintain a personal worship experience.
  • Attend required trainings for the Family Ministry team during and outside of normal business hours, unless directed by the Family Ministry Pastor.
  • Attend weekend experiences, visit every Student Ministry environment as often as possible to greet, connect, build up, and to champion every volunteer, staff, and participant.
