Job Description:

The Peace Christian Reformed Church of South Holland, IL has begun a discernment process it trusts will lead to the installation of a new pastor. The congregation envisions a general practitioner who embraces the three-dimensional life of Christ by reaching up to the Lord in prayer and worship, reaching out to the community with the Gospel, and reaching in to the fellowship of believers with the love of God in Christ.

The congregation has renewed its commitment to be a safe haven of God’s grace where the gospel message is proclaimed and celebrated, and God’s people are nurtured through worship, service, and a shared life in Christ. She will benefit from wise and courageous consensus building pastoral leadership that produces and implements strategic initiatives to fulfill that mission in South Holland, IL.

The ideal candidate for this challenging position is bi-cultural, that is, a person who is comfortable in and understands both African American and Euro-American cultures. Such a pastor will help the congregation meet the challenge of being a predominantly Anglo-American congregation in a predominantly African American community.

The ideal candidate is a diligent servant of the Lord who follows the prompting of the Holy Spirit as he leads worship services, builds relationships with the community, provides pastoral care for the congregation, and influences the decision-making processes.

The ideal candidate is characterized by a growing commitment to Jesus Christ and a desire to be more like him, a deep love for the Reformed tradition, and evidence of meeting the biblical requirements of an elder.

Finally, the congregation values both pastoral experience and seminary training (Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent), as well as ordination as a Minister of the Word in the CRCNA or RCA (or willingness to seek such in the CRCNA).
