Saint Mark Baptist Church was founded in 1892 and is a community of followers of Jesus Christ in the heart of Little Rock, the capital of the state of Arkansas. Our membership is comprised of over 8000 members with a total of 23 full-time and 35 part-time professional and administrative staff. We have three (3) Sunday morning worship services as well as simultaneous worship services that are tailored for children of all ages. Our church offers over 70 ministries on our 14-acre campus with facilities that include a Worship Center, Family Life Center and an Education/Outreach Center.

Position Overview

The Sound Engineer is primarily responsible for managing the operation of all equipment used to create or amplify live sound effects and music for the church. This includes synchronizing, mixing or reproducing music, voices, or sound effects in worship settings, theater productions, recording studios, video productions or general church gatherings where clear transmission of sound is important. The Sound Engineer will also direct all sound ministry activities, staff and volunteers. This person must be available to work weekends (primarily on Sundays), some evenings, and some holidays (i.e. New Year’s Eve, MLK, Easter).


  •   Minimize unwanted sounds (feedback) during worship services.

  •   Regulate volume levels and sound quality during worship services. Currently using

    Behringer X32 mixing console.

  •   Collaborate with producers, performers and other to determine and achieve the desired

    sound for worship services.

  •   Provide oversight for all sound systems.

  •   Set up and operate playback and reinforcement for singers, dancers and other performers

    with pre-recorded tracks.

  •   Play music and mix house audio for dynamic worship experience.

  •   Process sound to meet company’s quality standards.

  •   Test, operate, maintain, install, repair and administer the repair of all equipment operated

    by the Sound Ministry.

  •   Provide leadership in performing sound checks.

  •   Make purchase recommendations for equipment.

  •   Oversee sound volunteers and trainings.

  •   Perform other duties as assigned by the Media Specialist, Chief of Operations and/or the

    Senior Pastor.


    •   Track record of healthy ministry success in a multi-staff environment

    •   Associate or Bachelor’s degree in sound engineering, broadcasting, technology or music

      production is preferred and/or the equivalent combination of education and at least 5 years

      of professional experience in sound technology.

    •   The completion of a certified training or vocational program in sound technology is also

      preferred to recognize professional competence.

    •   It is imperative that the person in this position has a clear understanding of how the

      sound/audio equipment functions, which requires a passion for both electronics and


    •   Possess the ability to work without close supervision.

    •   Possess the skills to plan, implement, analyze and delegate.

    •   Good listening skills are necessary to distinguish sound, tone and pitch.

    •   Detail orientation, effective decision-making and open-mindedness are essential in this


    •   This position also requires effective communication skills and good teamwork abilities to

      work with a variety of people and offer recommendations.

    •   Healthy personal and family life.
