Job Description:

We are seeking an individual with the passion and drive to help Highland Community Church take the next steps into the future through the use of technology for glory of Jesus Christ! The Technical Director has overall responsibility for technical quality and consistency of the church’s audio, video, lighting, stage and multi-media needs.  This person would also supervise, train, and recruit volunteer team members to serve in the technical arts ministry for all worship services and special events at all (3) Highland campuses.



  • Ensure that the Sunday morning experience is technically excellent
  • Set a culture of excellence and continual improvement by serving as a proponent for new technology and resources that will improve the Sunday morning experience
  • Manage Volunteer Teams
  • Responsible to recruit, train, and schedule tech team volunteers
  • Provide training, coaching and mentoring for team members to maintain a consistent and excellent experience across all three campuses
  • Develop leaders who can effectively oversee campus technical teams and troubleshoot problems when they occur
  • Champion the culture of Highland Community Church with team members and others
  • Manage technical systems throughout the church’s three campuses
  • For every role, develop and maintain a standard operating process that will be used for training, and ensure consistent excellence when the process is followed
  • For every role, develop a checklist of important steps that is easy for volunteers or staff to refer to as they serve
  • Inspect systems and identify areas for improvement
  • See to the repair and/or replacement of faulty equipment
  • Proactively plan for future technology advancements and needs
  • File purchase records with serial numbers
  • Recruit tech team members for all special events
  • Oversee stage set-up and tear down for all special events
  • Coordinate with the appropriate leader for technical needs of events that occur on campus, such as:  seasonal productions, guest artist concerts, weddings, conferences, and other events
  • Oversee the integration of all technical systems, ensuring they are installed with safety in mind, and that they operate within the goals of the church
  • Continue personal education through various means (conferences, subscriptions, networking, etc.) of technology advancement and future   
  • Other staff duties as required


  • Follower of Christ applying and growing in Christian disciplines
  • Authentic and consistent in their own spiritual walk and relationships
  • Be/become an active member of Highland Community Church
  • Must have good organizational and people skills and desire to equip people for the work of ministry
  • Flexible team player who understands and supports the vision, policies, and procedures of Highland Community Church
  • Assist Worship Pastor in developing technical ministry team leaders
  • Strong work ethic, dependable, reliable, and passionate about technical arts creativity and excellence that impacts lives for Christ
  • Experience with video production equipment and software (Pro Presenter)
  • Desire to continue learning in technological areas that will help improve the worship experience at Highland Community Church
  • Degree and/or equivalent on the job experience (minimum three years) in Technical Arts and/or Music/Stage Production



  • Larger church experience and/or experience producing events working with audio/video/lighting/production
  • Experience leading staff and teams of volunteers



  • Technical Arts Director reports to the Worship Pastor
  • Worship Pastor will conduct an annual performance review with the Technical Arts Director
