Celebration United Methodist Church is searching for a Children and Family Ministries Director to further develop and expand our children and family ministries. Celebration is located in an area that has a high population of young families. The church strives
to demonstrate excellence and an entrepreneurial spirit. Candidates for this position should lead with a servant's heart and have a visible, growing personal relationship with Christ.
At Celebration United Methodist Church we find reason to hope and take joy in the gospel of Jesus as it can transform lives and communities. We believe that the depth of God’s love is so great that we can only grow in that love. As a church, we seek to
nurture each other in our daily lives of faith through worship, small group studies and intentional prayer. It is through our daily interactions with one another and with Jesus that we are grounded in Jesus all the more and transformed and empowered to change
the community in the love of Christ.
“Celebrating and sharing the love of Jesus Christ in our community and the world.”
Celebration is a new church start in the Southwest area of Gainesville. We currently worship an average of 160-170 children and adults in worship. Originally a preaching sight launched off of Trinity UMC, Celebration has taken on an identity of its own
as a vibrant, welcoming, community oriented congregation. There is a deep desire within the congregation to share the love of Jesus in our community.
Our Senior Pastor
Reverend Melissa Pisco is the fourth pastor to serve Celebration. Melissa is a member of the Florida Annual Conference and has served churches in Florida for the past 10 years. Prior to that she was serving in the New England Conference for 6 years. For
the past 4 years Melissa was the Sr. Pastor at St. Paul UMC in Jacksonville. Prior to that Melissa served as the Sr. Pastor at St John’s on the Lake in Miami Beach for 3 years. Melissa is responsible for the long term strategic vision of Celebration, and
for leading the congregation’s spiritual development through preaching and teaching. Melissa responsibilities also include developing and overseeing ministries of the church that continue the development of members and constituents into fully committed followers
of Jesus Christ and supervision of the Administrative areas that support those ministries.
Our Church Culture
Celebration is a faith community that is committed to relationships: our relationship with God and with others. We nurture our relationship with God and others through acts of worship, study and service. We offer two
worship services each week. Our traditional service is one that pulls from our rich heritage, sharing in the creeds and hymns of years past. We have recently revamped our second service to be intentionally geared towards families.
We believe that families should have the opportunity to worship together, which means providing a safe, inviting place for families to worship together. Inviting our children to attend, and participate in worship, is an important piece to this. At our family
service the music is contemporary and the arts are included as vessels through which the Holy Spirit can speak.
Small groups are offered for all ages. From children to adults, on and off the campus, small groups gather for study, prayer and fellowship. We understand that each of us are called to disciple others, even as we make ourselves available
to be discipled by someone else. Throughout the month there are several opportunities to be in
service. We support such ministries as the local food bank, Hope Lodge, Habitat for Humanity and the Hospice Attic. While we are committed to sending financial resources, we also give of our time and talents to these organizations
that do tremendous work in our community.
At a recent visioning day, we began to dream God’s dream for Celebration. With a commitment to making a difference in our community by sharing the love of Jesus Christ, we are exploring ministries such as an Art and Music Academy, an affordable PreSchool/Afterschool
Program, Family Events hosted out in the community, Care & Visitation Ministries and an additional worship service.
Our Staff Culture
The staff at Celebration loves Jesus and truly loves each other. We gather each month for dinner at the Pastor’s house. During that time we share life, and ministry. After dinner we spend time in God’s work, seeking God’s will for our ministry and Celebration.
We seek to help each other grow and encourage each other on the journey. We pray with and for each other, not just at our gatherings, but simply as we have need. It is not unusual to see two staff members standing together, holding hands and praying for
each other throughout the week.
As a team we seek to serve, not only in our work positions, but also in the community. We join in with the ministries of the church, getting our hands dirty as we serve Jesus through serving our neighbor.
