Position Title: Youth Pastor (Associate Pastor of Student Ministries)

Reporting: Reports to the Senior Pastor

Classification: Full-time (45 -50 hours/week)


Position Summary: The Youth Pastor serves the church by providing direction and leadership to all of the ministries surrounding Junior and Senior High students at Hope. This position will work under our Senior Pastor and in concert with him.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Youth Ministry (Senior High and Junior High)

  1. Responsible for vision and overall plan for all levels of Youth ministry
  2. Sets overall vibe, tone and atmosphere for youth ministries
  3. Provides clear roles and expectations for volunteer staff
  4. Facilitates the recruitment, support, appreciation and ongoing training for volunteers for all aspects of the ministry
  5. Invests in the emotional and spiritual health of the youth staff & volunteers
  6. Provides oversight and guidance to curriculum choices for Student Ministries
  7. Is responsible for adequate coverage in classrooms and safety of the students in them
  8. Provides oversight and direction for Sunday morning and mid-week meetings
  9. Communicates personally and regularly with the parents of students


Leadership Team

  1. Participate in weekly pastoral staff meetings and collaborate with the Senior Pastor and rest of the staff on church-wide strategic direction (currently on Tuesdays 9:30a-12:30p)
  2. Participate in monthly Elders meetings to discuss the progress in your ministry
  3. Meet regularly with the Senior Pastor to discuss personal performance and other pertinent personal needs
  4. Additional projects and responsibilities may be necessary, as requested by the senior pastor 





Required: Bachelor’s Degree, preferable in Biblical Studies or Youth Ministries

Preferred: Master’s level work


Essential Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience serving in youth ministry and/or a pastoral role
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in managing and supervising staff, and/or

1 year experience in recruiting, managing and supervising volunteers


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience serving in the above areas in a larger (300+) church
  • Proven track record in ministry with youth
  • Proven track record in building effective teams


Essential Qualities:

  • A personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and evidence of living under the guidelines for leaders found in I Timothy 3: 1-7 and Titus 1
  • Two words: PASSION and ENTHUSIASM. This person must have a contagious passion for discipling youth and passing that passion onto adult volunteers. This person must also have a sense of humor and a strong desire to “enjoy the journey”
  • Emotional and relational maturity
  • Loyalty and dedication to Hope’s statement of faith, vision, values and leadership (see the “ABOUT HOPE” section of the website at http://www.hopechurchchandler.com)
  • Willing to meet membership requirements, and with your family (if applicable) make Hope Covenant your home church
  • Spiritually mature Christian with consistent and long-term track record of Christ-like behavior and a heart for service in ministry
  • Effective communicator in verbal and written communication including social media
  • Collaborative team leader who motivates and encourages others
  • Relatable/Personable - can talk about past sins, struggles, challenges or problems
  • Full of life - energetic, compassionate, can keep up with the energy of the youth
  • Margins - Being a Youth Pastor will require a lot of time, commitment, service, but he/she should know when to say "No" and find places to recharge/reflect/re-energize his/her spiritual walk.  Having balance in all responsibilities and area of their life
  • Current Social Issues - A good knowledge on hot topic issues Jr. High & Sr. High students are dealing with presently
  • They need to be flexible to meet with students outside of the Sunday and Wednesday youth group meetings


Duties and responsibilities:


  • Facilitate overall student ministry programs for Hope with a focus on student discipleship
  • Serve as primary teaching pastor to youth, responsible to coordinate supplemental teachers and facilitators
  • Enlist, train, encourage and build a team for youth coaches
  • Encourage and enable students to lead and disciple others
  • Coordinate youth service opportunities and instill a culture of serving
  • Conduct quarterly parent updates/meetings to inform of youth ministries, engage in feedback and encourage/plug parents into Hope 
  • Be committed to the priorities of the Evangelical Covenant Church through the ministries of the Pacific SW Conference and the denomination
