Job Description:


The AVL Engineer is responsible for supporting the weekend and midweek services and/or events in a combination of operating and support roles. The AVL Engineer is also responsible for operating appropriate audio, video, and lighting in the various venues on campus during services and special events. The AVL Engineer partners with our team of audio, video, and lighting specialists. The AVL Engineer has general knowledge and strengths in all areas of AVL production. The AVL Engineer also functions as a weekend producer for various services and events. The position may be part-time or full-time based on skills and experience.


  • Operates live sound, lighting systems, and video switching in various venues on the SBC campus
  • Cultivates and trains volunteers to operate AVL equipment
  • Helps with overall production support around the SBC campuses
  • Builds, trains, and recruits media/production volunteers
  • Produces alternate venues and multisite locations
  • Sets up and trouble shoots equipment
  • Supports other ministries/departments with AVL expertise
  • Maintains equipment, arranges for repairs as necessary, and provides recommendations on any needed upgrades
  • System diagnostics/repair/troubleshooting
  • General production clean up and maintenance
  • Other various tasks not defined on a job description
  • Develops cross campus standards and documentation and training of that standard
  • Leads and manages projects with other staff for weekly and major events
  • Oversees proper inventories of supplies


  • Possesses an understanding of AVL systems and professional standards of excellence
  • Formal training and/or experience in a live production environment
  • Dependable, consistent, leader-analyst who professionally promotes good communication within Scottsdale Bible Church and presents a positive image of the church to the community
  • Experience within all disciplines and signal flow of AVL technologies
  • Broad understanding of current video and lighting technologies, operations and installation
  • Ability to mix sound, design a lighting show, and TD video cameras
  • Ability to work with worship and arts leaders; sensitive to their needs and expectations
  • Ability to work in a changing, fast-paced environment, while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to make decisions during time-sensitive, live productions
  • Ability to work in a team environment with other ministry leaders – active contributor during production sessions, creative thinker in planning for worship/special events, collaborative leader during disciple training
  • Knows the difference between 32k and 56k (and we are not talking about money here)
  • Ability to operate aerial lifts, lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and work in cat walks
