Position Overview

The Sports Ministry Assistant is a spiritual and organizational leader who helps oversee the Sports Ministry department of Cypress Church.  Oversight of the department includes but is not limited to: strong leadership and ensuring that things are led in such a way that engages the church with God and one another, continually emphasizing the vision and strategy of Cypress (reach, grow, serve) and how that influences the Sports Ministry department, training of and caring for team members while working with various groups within the department, a vital and participating member of the Cypress leadership team as well as the department.

  • Proficiency in Excel and like programs are desired

Job Title : Assistant Sports Ministry Director

Compensation : $30-34K annually / salary

Reporting To : Director of Sports Ministries

Hours : Full Time - hrs/week will vary


Job Description (but not limited to) :


1. Understand and follow the vision for Cypress Sports Ministries with a plan to carry it out

  • Teach the vision and purpose statement to all volunteers, staff, and leaders
  • Increase participation in Cypress sports ministries while continually following the mission of the church

2. Develop and lead programs according to the vision and purpose of Cypress Sports Ministries

  • Create outreach programs, activities and events (evangelism)
  • Lead players, kids and adults, to worship services through the attendance policy to allow them to fellowship with each other, learn Biblical truths and apply them to their lives (spiritual growth)
  • Plan programs, activities or events, developing kids and adults who want to reach out and serve others, impacting them with the love of Christ (leadership)

3. Recruit and train volunteer leaders to help you with your purpose

  • Every kid and adult should know that someone is praying, caring and investing in their lives
  • Meet regularly with your volunteers and leadership staff
  • Build into your team with consistent training and equipping
  • Provide annual training events or conferences for your team

4. Build and maintain quality relationships with parents

  • Clearly share your vision with parents so they understand the purpose of the sports health and wellness ministry
  • Create avenues of consistent contact with parents (regular e-newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, website, etc.)
  • Works closely with the admin team and communications department to share timely information
  • Become aware of the needs of the parents

5. Create opportunities for kids and adults to participate in activities that represent Christ-like behavior

  • Sports Programs - Basketball, soccer, flag-football, in-door volleyball, sand volleyball, softball, etc.
  • Various camps/clinics
  • Training activities such as Zumba, MMA, running or walking clubs, etc.

6. Oversee, within given guidelines, the Cypress sports ministry budget

  • Be prudent with finances, sticking with the budget that is set

7. Oversee sports venues and scheduling


8. Provide a periodic report to the director of sports ministries of your goals, accomplishments, challenges, prayers and praises
