Director of Children’s Ministries at SW Campus


Fellowship Community Church is one church with many locations.  It is a vibrant, contemporary church in the heart of the Roanoke Valley. The Fellowship was started 14 years ago in the basement of a home.  About four years ago, FCC went multi-site and launched the North Campus. In September 2013, the Southwest Campus launched in the Cave Spring area of Roanoke.  In just over a year, we are worshipping with about 500 members and attenders each Sunday in Cave Spring Middle School. Our Kid’s Life area continues to grow weekly with around 100 children attending birth – 5th grade. This position is for a part-time Children’s Ministry Director at the Southwest campus. We are looking for an energetic, team player who loves Jesus first and loves His people (both children & adults). We are looking for our next team member who is passionate about moving this ministry area to the next level.


Spiritual gifts: 

Administration, teaching, shepherding, leadership

(This position focuses heavily on leading volunteers and administration, rather than hands on teaching with children.)


Skills Needed: 

  • Experience necessary in preschool and/or elementary education/ministry as well as knowledge of children and how they learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking
  • Excellent people skills to be able to recruit, develop, train and lead volunteers
  • High level of administration/organization/management skills
  • Proficient computer skills (Word/Publisher/Excel/PowerPoint); clerical skills helpful 


Responsibilities include, but not limited to:


  • Implement and cast the vision of Kid’s Life to parents and volunteers through creative means using the “Orange” philosophy
  • Work with the pastor and other staff/leaders to recruit new volunteers
  • Create a team atmosphere among leaders
  • Care for families through phone calls, written notes, etc.
  • Talk with children and parents about salvation including teaching the “I’m A Christian Now” class; lead children to Jesus as opportunities arise
  • Oversee all of the Sunday morning details each week for Kid’s Life



  • Follow the plan for volunteer recruitment, screening and training set up by FCC
  • Provide and lead periodic training opportunities for volunteers
  • Develop teams of volunteers that will help manage and oversee the ministry
  • Work with your campus pastor/staff to develop the yearly budget
  • Maintain records, receipts, etc. of expenses to be given to the Financial Administrator 
  • Maintain and sign-off on all time sheets for hourly employees 
  • Oversee paid child care workers for campus specific events - - staying within allowed budget hours.
  • Attend monthly FCC staff meetings in Salem & weekly SW Campus staff meetings

Education/Outreach/Special Events

  • Oversee needs of classrooms on Sunday mornings (supplies, setup, volunteers, etc.)
  • Provide a safe and secure environment
  • Prepare (with a team) the curriculum and supplies for each week
  • Encourage & train volunteers to teach with enthusiasm and creativity
  • Recruit kids for summer camps (Camp Eagle – day camp & Camp Kidjam overnight); Attend these camps
  • Plan with your team special event days or outreach events
  • Recruit and process new paid childcare workers to help with special events (Membership class, One Worship, etc)

Other duties as assigned

This is a part-time, 20+- hr a week, position and works directly with and reports to the SW Campus Pastor and the Salem Campus Children’s Director.
