Job Description for Student Ministries Pastor:


Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church (TABC), an SBC-affiliated church, seeks a Student Ministries Pastor to lead and grow established youth and children’s ministries.  TABC is a growing community of followers of Jesus Christ, who strive to Know God, to Grow in our faith and obedience to Him, and to Show His love to the world around us.


The overarching goal for the youth program is that each of these young people would come to faith in Jesus Christ and be nurtured in a day-to-day relationship with Him, to the end that the remainder of their lives would be a fruitful relationship with the living God.


The Ideal Candidate will:  Have a heartfelt desire to lead young people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; Be experienced in teaching, motivating and leading youth in a variety of settings using strong Biblical teaching skills and counsel; Demonstrate a proven ability to grow a ministry and those within it toward a mature faith in Jesus Christ; Continue to develop volunteer leaders to maintain a relevant and effective program.


While denominational affiliation is not a requirement, agreement with our church doctrinal values is required.


Primary Qualifications:

Scriptural: 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9

Education:  Bible College, Seminary or comparable

Experience:  Two years of experience preferred

Gifts:  Teaching, Leadership, and Relational Skills to connect and relate one-on-one with students and adults.

Possession of 5 “C”s—Character, Competence, Capacity, Chemistry, and Core Value agreement

Support TABC’s Statement of Faith, Constitution and Mission Statement.


Youth Responsibilities (Grade 7-12)

-Challenge each young person to faith in Jesus Christ and provide ongoing discipleship.

-Communicate a clear vision, coordinate and direct the youth activities of the church for grades 7-12.  

This shall include: 

-Christian education activities, discipleship and outreach

-Fellowship activities for the youth   

-Student leadership training

-Youth retreats/conferences (e.g. Super Summer, In-Depth)

-Coordinate events into the church calendar

-Teambuilding: Recruit and develop volunteer leadership to assist with various areas of youth ministry.

-Have personal contact with the youth.  This may be accomplished through regular group meetings, visitation, counseling, discipleship, etc.

-Assist youth who are considering missions or Christian education with necessary information and correspondence.

-Regularly communicate relevant information with youth, parents, pastoral staff, and deacons.


Children’s Responsibilities (K-Grade 6)

Communicate a clear vision, plan and provide oversight for all children ministries programs. Including Sunday morning programs/classes, Challengers (grade 5 and 6), AWANA, special events such as VBS, and as may arise.

This will include:

-Teambuilding- Recruit and develop volunteer leadership to assist with various areas of children’s ministry

-Provide curriculum

-Coordinate events into the church calendar

-Regularly communicate with parents, ministry staff, pastors and deacons


General Responsibilities:

-Maintain an ongoing, growing personal relationship with Christ through personal prayer and Bible study.

-Coordinate and cooperate with the deacons and ministry heads in the various functions and programs of the church.

-Formulate, submit, and administer a budget for youth and children’s ministries.

-Participate in other pastoral functions as assigned by the Senior Pastor and Deacons.
