Saratoga Federated Church





To build and oversee ministry to youth and their families.  Saratoga Federated youth ministry exists to create environments in which kids develop an authentic faith, build relationships, and impact their community.  We want our youth to discover Life in God, Life with Others, and Life for Others.


The Director of Youth and Family Ministries is responsible for all aspects of facilitating the spiritual growth and development of students (grades 9 through 12 and college).  This includes leadership of weekly programs and periodic special events (camps, conferences, trips, service projects, etc.).




This position will report to the Family Pastor.

Major Duties


General responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with other church staff to shepherd and lead God’s church and to promote the values, visions and goals established by the Elders and church leadership.
  • Within the context of the overall ministry of Saratoga Federated Church, develop an effective transitional strategy to both incorporate incoming students and “launch” outgoing students toward meaningful connection with Christ and Christian community




Recruitment and training

  • Direct the recruitment, training, and development of volunteers as needed to staff weekly programs (such as Sunday morning) and special events, teaching and discipling young people.  This includes facilitating small groups and providing the support and resources necessary.


Youth ministry programs

  • Lead a team of volunteers in the creation and operation of a student ministry, including weekly services and routine special events
  • Oversee all ministries within the youth ministry from grade 9 through college.  This includes Sunday morning and midweek programs for middle school and high school students, and post high school and college students. 
  • Provide leadership for faith building experiences for youth including confirmation classes, youth worship, service projects and short team Mission events, retreats and outreach events.



  • Working with other ministry staff, develop spiritual formation “building blocks” that are developmentally appropriate and integrated with age-adjacent programs (Children’s and Family Ministry)


Family ministry

  • Be part of the family Ministry team teaching staff for parents and adults
  • Be an active participant in our Family Ministries Team, including attending relevant conferences and meetings
  • Work with the Family Pastor to create family events for youth and their families. 



  • Oversee room set up and decorating of youth ministry area
  • Lead the creative use and proactive upkeep of youth ministry facilities



  • Create and manage a student ministry calendar that will drive all the activities and teaching of the ministry


Youth safety and management

  • Implement student registration, program management, and security policies/practices in support of weekly services and special events




  • Assist in the development of an annual budget for youth ministries and manage spending to budget



  • Evaluate curriculum to be used in teaching and discipleship.  Create a plan for teaching faith concepts to students in grades 9-12. 


Education and Experience:


  • This position requires a minimum of 2 to 5 years’ experience as a staff member in a student ministry leadership capacity.
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required.  Extensive ministry experience, in some cases, can be substituted.
  • The successful individual will be a strong leader with a solid work ethic, possessing a passion for teaching students about God and ability to administrate as a department head.
  • A working knowledge of creative programming related to student programs and special events is a real plus
