Director of Care (12110), Baltimore Area, MD

We are conducting a national search for a Director of Care for a contemporary and relevant congregation of over approaching 1,000 in weekly attendance. the Director of Care  will develop and oversee the structure and effective administration of ministries that result in people being shepherded and cared for through the crises and transitions of life.

The Director of Care will (generally):


  • Maintain personal spiritual growth through regular spiritual disciplines.

  • Maintain a "servant heart" and function with a "whatever-it-takes" attitude

  • Make budget recommendations to the Session

  • Secure feedback on ministries and continually strive to improve the quality.

  • Promote enthusiastically and creatively throughout the church.

  • Secure feedback on ministries and continually strive to improve their quality

  • Establish short and long term goals for ministry area. Effectively communicate those goals and implement strategy for their fulfillment.

  • Support involvement in church-wide leadership development for regular support, vision-building and training.


Regarding Care:

  • In general, oversee pastoral care throughout the church

  • Be first responder to pastoral crises in people’s lives

  • Train gifted people in shepherding and counseling

  • Oversee weddings and funerals; design and oversee system for wedding preparation

  • Develop ministry of teaching, support and encouragement of healthy marriage

  • Oversee Divorce Care

  • Oversee visitation and shepherding for the infirm, hospitalized, grieving, etc.

  • Help foster ministries of mutual and healing prayer in the church

  • Participate in worship and pastoral care activities as assigned by the Senior Pastor




  • Secure in personal identity; aware of and comfortable with strengths and weaknesses

  • Flexible and adaptable with working responsibilities or environment

  • Self-starter who is able to perform in a multi-task environment and prioritize work requirements

  • Able to collaborate with others and work well as a team member

  • Up to date in use of technology for personal ministry; able to learn new software and applications


  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to counsel and guide in a wide variety of situations without becoming full-time counselor; knows how to support, encourage, discern and refer

  • Effective leadership skills displayed through abilities to coordinate volunteer teams and events and ability to recruit, develop, support and inspire effective team leaders

  • Wise and discerning in decision-making; uses sound judgment in problem solving


  • Growing spiritually, evidencing daily dependence on God in life and ministry

  • Family life in order


  • Subscribes to system of belief in Westminster Confession of Faith

  • Good grasp of spiritual theology and the role of spiritual disciplines


  • Committed to the church philosophy and style of ministry (rooted in the past but contemporary in expression)

  • Vision- and faith-oriented

  • Committed to pursuing excellence
