Dear Prospective Lead Pastor:
At Crossroads Church of God our mission statement says that we are “A community of sojourners in Christ, committed to live by Faith, to transmit Hope, and to be known by Love.” We are looking for a fellow like-minded sojourner: someone who wishes to walk
alongside of us; who wants to engage in relationship with a missionally-focused body; and who deeply desires to know and be known by a Christ-centered community.
Alongside. We are a body who wishes to partner with a leader with creative energy and fresh vision for Crossroads. We welcome a leader who is able to challenge us to whatever God is calling us to do, but who also recognizes that people are
not obstacles to a goal, but sons and daughters of God, created in His image, who deserve to be treated with love and respect. Our next leader will be someone who both engages in relationship with our church family and who works to foster relationships within
and among church members.
Missional. The community at Crossroads has a long tradition of looking outward. We are engaged in mission work at both the local and global levels, and we are looking for a leader who is equally passionate about serving the “least of these.”
Locally, the Lima area community is unique in that it is both urban and rural, and we serve it through ministries like Spread the Bread, Spread the Thread, Family Promise, and Our Daily Bread, the local soup kitchen. Globally, we have engaged in long-term
support of Ugandan missionaries, and we have sent several mission teams there and to Haiti as well.
Authentic. We know that being a pastor is often, ironically, a lonely job, because pastors do not often feel safe in being vulnerable with their community. At Crossroads we give you permission to be honest and vulnerable about whatever challenges
you are facing. We desire relationship that extends beyond the worship service to sharing coffee on a weekday morning or having dinner together on a Sunday afternoon. Authenticity is scary, but if you have the courage to share your true self with us, then
we welcome your application.
In the spirit of authenticity, we wish to be open and honest about the challenges that we are facing up front, so that they do not come as a surprise later on in the process. Like many other churches, attendance and finances are in a state of decline, and
any incoming leader will need fresh vision to address those issues. In addition, a recent survey of the body revealed that our efforts to bring new believers to Christ and to communicate the daily happenings of church life require improvement. In spite of
these issues, we are still moving forward and working to expand ministry, even in this time of transition, with, for example, a renewed emphasis on adult discipleship, a growing and vibrant children and youth ministry, and plans to send yet another mission
team to Uganda in the spring of next year.
Of course, we are looking for all of these qualities in someone who is capable of carrying out the normal duties of a lead pastor, which include preaching and teaching; equipping staff and lay leaders; weddings and funerals; and pastoral care of the body.
It is a big job, but we know that whom God calls, He also equips, and if you feel that God may be calling you to serve alongside us as Lead Pastor and fellow sojourner, please submit your resume´, your Philosophy of Ministry, and a link to or DVD of a recent
message to email@example.com. It is our hope that, together, we can continue to share the Good News of God’s love both locally and globally.
