Job Description:

NorthWoods Church of Evansville, IN is looking for a Lead Pastor.  We are looking for someone with a heart to follow God’s direction to lead us to reach the surrounding community and the world for Christ.  The Lead Pastor’s primary role will be to explain God’s Word to the Church and those attending its services through expository preaching.  The Lead Pastor will work together with the Elders of the Church, Leadership Team and staff to lead the congregation.  The ideal candidate will have a Seminary degree or training and must have practical ministry experience.  This leader should adhere to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.  The candidate should also be a people person committed to the support and edification of families.   He will lead by example and live a life of Biblical integrity.  We would like a man of vision, committed to the spiritual growth of our congregation as well as reaching the lost.  He will support community outreach efforts and will shepherd our congregation, helping its members to discover and strengthen their spiritual gifts while directing those gifts toward church ministry.  He will be the tone-setter, leading our Elders, Deacons and staff, but will not carry the challenge of leadership alone.  He will be supported by our staff and church leaders.  In short, our ministry priorities are:

1.            Preaching

2.            Teaching (Bible/Theology)

3.            Evangelism

4.            Prayer and Bible Study

5.            Leadership

6.            Spiritual growth and discipleship of our congregation (children through adult age)

NorthWoods Church is a conservative, Southern Baptist church that has a contemporary worship style.  We are a church that has a robust history of church planting and missions.  A recent workshop conducted among our members indicated a desire for a Bible based, God directed church.  The primary vision of NorthWoods Church is focused on the following areas:

  • Preaching matters.  We desire well-prepared expository sermons that have a sound Biblical foundation where the whole Bible is taught.
  • Developing and training mature believers to come alongside new believers in discipleship.
  • Equipping and training parents and children to study God’s word and apply its truth to everyday life.
  • Allowing the Holy Spirit to guide the congregation into relationships with unbelievers to lead them to a relationship with Christ.

Our desire is that God will lead the man to NorthWoods Church who will join us in our vision and who will challenge us to grow in our faith.

Evansville is Indiana’s third largest city and is situated in the southwestern portion of the state along the scenic Ohio River.  With a diverse industry, Evansville provides its 117,500 residents with a broad economic base, as well as varied opportunities for housing, shopping, worship, healthcare and entertainment.  The city is adjacent to several additional communities as well as those located in Kentucky and southern Illinois, raising the local populations to over 300,000.

Two major universities that are nationally known for their excellence, University of Evansville and University of Southern Indiana, provide a wide range of educational pursuits in addition to quality sports entertainment.   If you enjoy outdoor activities, you will find that boating, swimming, fishing, camping and hiking opportunities abound.    Evansville is within easy driving distance of several major cities including: Indianapolis, Louisville, Lexington, Nashville and St Louis among many others.  If your travel plans are more extensive, the city is served by a conveniently accessible airport.

Evansville, Indiana is a friendly city and an excellent place to raise a family or to simply call home.  Yet, in this wonderful environment  there are also tremendous spiritual needs.  According to the State Convention of Baptists in Indiana 2013 statistics, 81% of Evansville’s Vanderburgh County population is not evangelical Christian, 146,932 people are estimated to be lost without Christ, and there are only 27 Southern Baptist churches in the County to reach them.  NorthWoods’ populous mission field offers an evangelistic Pastor unlimited opportunities to make an eternal difference with a growing church that is committed to reaching the lost here.
