Job Description:

GENERAL PURPOSE:   The Facilities Director is responsible for the maintenance of all buildings and grounds owned by Christ Church.  This position will train, evaluate, and manage the maintenance and custodial personnel for all sites.  In addition, this position will be responsible for optimizing the church’s facilities by managing the physical resources of the church in accordance with standard operating procedures, legal requirements, established plans and high standards of the gospel.  This position will work in cooperation with the Buildings and Grounds committee of the deacon board and have significant project planning, project management and budget responsibility.  The Facilities Director will also be responsible for ministry set-ups and room configurations as needed.


The Facility Director must have grace under pressure. Things are constantly changing which can create an exciting, yet frenzied atmosphere.  Ministry team members need to hear a steady voice of calmness, grace and positive leadership.



  1. A.              Maintenance
  • Plan and schedule maintenance activities; determine level of maintenance required; prioritize needs and schedule projects; determine method and source of repair required; evaluates plans to ensure effective and efficient maintenance
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a preventative maintenance program for Christ Church buildings and equipment, including but not limited to boilers and other heating units, air handlers, radiation pumps, timers, exhaust fans, air conditioners, hot water heaters, air compressors, and valves; obtains manufacturer’s specifications and develops weekly, monthly, or annual inspection and maintenance programs; write procedures for the effective, efficient, and energy saving operations of equipment.  Facilitate the repair and/or maintenance of projects requiring the skill set of an outside contractor
  • Oversee the production and maintenance of maintenance manuals for all systems.  Establish repair and maintenance schedules for systems
  • Administers the security system by responding to alarms, updating automatic door lock/unlock times, and overseeing the distribution of keycards and keys to staff and volunteers


  1. B.              Supervision and Communication
  •       Plan, schedule, assign, inspect, and evaluate the work of facility team members on a daily basis
  •       Oversee and establish a level of quality that is met by facility team members and works alongside team members by communicating and demonstrating how to achieve these quality standards
  •       Interface with other departments; 

1) Maximize communications and understanding of facilities issues by attending regularly scheduled meetings (ministry staff meetings, team staff meetings, debrief meetings, etc.);

2) Understand other department’s ministries and the relationship between their department and facility operations; 

3) Solicit feedback on activities, and be accountable and approachable for the operation of the facilities with other departments and other locations;

4) Establish a communications process that involves all locations.

  •       Develop a transportation process and procedure between multiple sites
  1. C.              Project Planning and Budget Management
  • Oversee and be accountable for the budget, staff, utilities, materials and special projects.  Monitor projects and their budgets.  Assist building and grounds committee of the deacon board in determining any long-range physical needs/capital projects of Christ Church
  • Develop, oversee and maintain standard operating procedures for all aspects of the department
  • Responsible for the safe operation and meeting of legal requirements of the church facility, ensuring that the church completely operates within the laws and codes of the city and state




  •      The standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry trades, and crafts
  •      Occupational hazards and safety precautions and inspections necessary in the building maintenance and janitorial work
  •       The methods used to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs




  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and carpentry work and/or experience managing contractors who can perform these duties
  • Experience developing and implementing a preventative maintenance programs
  • Prior supervisory experience required.  Will need to plan, schedule, assign, direct, inspect and evaluate the work of employees and contractors
  • Experience evaluating building plans and specifications, reading blueprints and building codes and recommending changes to facilitate easier maintenance or improved energy savings
  • Must have effective communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city personnel and supervisors
  • Experience performing a cost-benefit analysis of construction projects, provide quality services in a cost-effective manner and to recommend improved methods of performing the work
  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license and a safe driving record
  •      Must have knowledge of:
  • The standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry trades, and crafts
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions and inspections necessary in building maintenance and janitorial work
  • The methods used to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs
  • Speciliazed equipment for example; drill press, bench grinder, snow blower, emergency gas powered generator
