Title of the Position:

Director of Worship Arts



Hired Staff


Reports to:

Lead Pastor


Overall Responsibility:

To develop, manage and oversee the worship arts ministries at Hillside.


Key Areas of Responsibility:

 Envision, plan, communicate and manage music ministries at Hillside

 Oversee and manage the services under the leadership of the Lead Pastor

 Oversee and manage all sound and media at Hillside

 Oversee and train the A/V technicians of the congregation; maintain all A/V equipment and church-owned instruments  

 Train contemporary musicians consistent with our theological vision

 Support ministries in supply and set-up of A/V needs

 Oversee and manage special music/functions (e.g, choirs) and assist ministries (e.g., youth groups, VBS, HARP)

 Keep Senior Pastor informed of the congregant’s needs and situations through written and verbal communication.

 Maintain required records

 Ability to lead worship without a team if necessary

 Other duties as requested by pastors

 Acceptance of the Lutheran Brethren Statement of Faith

 Proficiency in one or more lead instruments (ex. piano, guitar) 

 Ability to read sheet music

 Competent in supervision and leadership and able to work in cooperation with fellow staff members

 Relational and personable, able to confront when necessary, encourage, motivate and inspire others.

 Organized and able to manage, delegate, and lead individuals and teams.

 Demonstrated skill in contemporary music

Team-building skills

 IT skills (Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Media Shout, etc.)  

 (Preferred) a graduate of an accredited four-year college; some years of experience in contemporary music:

                  ~Music and leadership/management degree

                  ~demonstrated skill in contemporary music







Other Performance Factors:

 Adheres to church staff and operational policies

 Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.  In addition, able to perform duties independently, with minimal need for direct supervision.

 Demonstrates willingness to take additional responsibilities when they can be assumed without adversely affecting quality or quantity of work in key areas of responsibility.

 Maintains confidentiality of all congregants

 Demonstrates the ability to interact in a positive, caring and helpful manner with congregants, staff, visitors and others.

Performs duties willingly, as directed.
