Grade School Ministry Coordinator


Overview: The Grade School Ministry Coordinator will lead and manage Church on the Hill’s efforts to reach and disciple grade school children, kindergarten through 5th grade. This job is part-time, requiring 25 hours per week, plus summer camp and other infrequent events. Typical workweek includes Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, plus other office hours as determined with supervisor. Wages are determined based on education, experience and other qualifications. Paid vacation, PTO and other benefits are also available. The coordinator serves with and is accountable to the Associate Pastor of Family Ministries.

 

Qualifications: Applicant must be a courageous Christ-follower who (1) maintains a consistent devotional life of prayer and Bible study, (2) has a history of active service within and tithing to a local church, (3) demonstrates observable Christian behavior with family, friends and community and (4) influences others to become courageous followers of Christ and (5) accepts the Church on the Hill statements of faith and strategy.

 

Applicant must have a strong desire to partner with parents in connecting kids with Christ and should (1) be pursuing or have received an associate’s degree or higher in a related field, (2) have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a church of 500 or more, (3) have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a related field, especially one working with children in a large group setting, and (4) have experience leading or participating with a volunteer team of 20+.

 

Applicant should demonstrate a substantial collection of the following , gifts, characteristics and abilities: leadership, management, duplication, delegation, self-motivation, initiative, organization, enthusiasm, creativity, relationship building, team-mindedness, professionalism, communication, humor, group discipline, technology use (computer, audio, video, lighting, etc.)

 

Applicant should understand and accept these children’s ministry philosophies: (1) connecting kids with Jesus requires less teaching about their character and more teaching about the character, expectations and work of God (2) fairness to each child does not mean treating each child the same, but providing the same for each child according to their needs, experiences and learning styles, (3) relevant communication of God’s Truth requires varied techniques and strategies in a single presentation, (4) to engage children appropriately, any effort should most often be fun or funny no matter how serious it is, (5) worship (specifically through music) must be a significant aspect of ministry to grade school children, (6) everyone appreciates quality and almost everyone notices a lack of it.

 

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  1. Stay connected to the church body by attending celebration services weekly and through other provided connection points (small groups, classes, all-church events, service opportunities, etc.).
  2. Attend staff meetings as determined with supervisor.
  3. Comply with personnel policies listed in Employee Handbook.
  4. Participate in celebration services and other events/efforts as requested.
  5. Provide a brief, monthly , written report to supervisor about grade school ministries.
  6. Maintain awareness of trends, tools and techniques that reach today’s grade school children.
  7. Recruit, equip, empower and lead a diverse team of volunteers to serve grade school children.
  8. Appreciate, encourage and connect with volunteers regularly.
  9. Develop and maintain a three year scope and sequence for grade school ministry in coordination with preschool, middle school and high school ministries so as to have a cohesive plan of discipleship for children and teens of Church on the Hill.
  10. Manage efforts to take 3rd, 4th and 5th graders to a summer camp experience such as Camp Tadmor.
  11. Partner with, delegate to and manage the efforts of the part-time Grade School Assistant
  12. Provide and manage opportunities for spiritual growth in the lives of grade school children, especially through Sunday morning and Wednesday evening programming, including but not limited to these efforts:
  • Select or develop and implement curriculum and programming.
  • Present (and recruit others to present) large group lessons for weekly KIDS Church services
  • Ensure opportunities for worship through singing for grade school children (currently through KIDS Church assistant)
  • Produce engaging themes and décor, as necessary.
  • Maintain a schedule of volunteers.
  • Implement missions-minded experiences.
