Job Description:

Independent Christian Church in Central Illinois is seeking candidates for a Care Ministries Pastor (F-T). This person is responsible for leading holistic pastoral care in all areas of the life of the church. This person is committed to the recruitment, directing, and development of lay leaders in the areas of pastoral care. The person filling the position at First Christian Church will be a vital part of the pastoral and leadership team, using innovative and intentional ministry to fulfill its varied responsibilities.

Qualifications: This individual will have accepted Jesus Christ as the leader and forgiver of his or her life and is committed to growing in their walk with Jesus Christ. This person will have a strong biblical foundation. The candidate must have ministry experience and a minimum of a baccalaureate degree. Experience and skills in interacting with people of varied life and spiritual backgrounds is required. He or she must be able to work in a multi-staff setting with other ministry professionals maintaining interpersonal and relational skills. He or she must demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team to accomplish ministry goals. His or her beliefs must coincide with the First Christian Church Statement of Faith.

Additional Beneficial Skills: Clinical pastoral education or experience, leadership skills and experience, counseling, administration and organization.

Essential Job Functions: General oversight of the pastoral ministries of First Christian Church including, but not limited to:

  • Leadership and oversight of holistic pastoral care ministries including hospitals, nursing homes, shut-ins, and the like
  • Leadership and oversight of support and care groups and ministries
  • Leadership and oversight of congregational counseling needs and requests
  • Responsibility for pastoral services such as funerals, memorial services, weddings, and the like
  • Explore, create, and implement new ministries related to pastoral care and spiritual life, seeking  methods, people, and activities that will enhance the church’s effectiveness (e.g. recovery, support groups, etc.)
  • Implement pastoral care support, training, and ministry within existing ministries of the church (Family Ministry, Community Missions, Grow Together and Serve Together Groups, etc.)
  • Oversee assistance requests from those involved in our congregation
  • Regular Hospital, Home, and Nursing Home visitation
  • Enlist, direct, and develop volunteers in pastoral ministries
  • Work in conjunction with the church’s Pastor of Chaplaincy (who oversees a local hospital chaplaincy ministry)
  • Expect significant interaction with the Lead Pastor
  • Assist the Lead Pastor and Associate Pastor in developing and accomplishing the overall mission, vision, and shared objectives of First Christian Church
  • Perform other related work (ministry and administrative) as required or requested
