Position Description: This full time staff position at Bellaire United Methodist Church includes a base salary with benefits, and a professional expense account. The Director of Contemporary Worship and Youth will work closely with the Senior Pastor and other program staff.

Qualifications: The qualified candidate will have a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ, a servant heart, ability and passion for leading worship and next generation ministries, and a teachable spirit. Relevant ministry experience is required and a bachelor’s degree is desired.


Core Competencies: Important competencies include the relational ability to connect well with students and young adults; the ability to “translate” next generation ministry to older generations; technical skills (audio, visual, lighting, instrumentation); organizational & administrative skills; volunteer recruiting/ supervision; vocal & musical instrument leadership ability; social media savvy.


Ministry Program Responsibilities:

1) Contemporary Worship: The successful candidate will work with pastors to give oversight for the Contemporary Worship Service (and special services). In addition s/he will work with worship teams to envision and invite people into a passionate worship experience. Day to day administration includes all contemporary worship team matters, including recruitment, scheduling, leading regular practices, song/lyric files, budget, communications, A/V worship slides, etc.


2) Youth & Young Adult Ministry: Direct, hands-on, highly relational ministry to middle & senior high students for the entire church, as well as to young adults/ college students. This ministry includes all programmatic aspects of mission and outreach, nurture (including bible studies, confirmation), service, and care for students. Special attention is to be given to discipleship and preparing the students to live out their faith everyday. In addition the successful candidate will be someone:

  • Who administrates scheduling, communication and budget.
  • Recruits, trains and oversees adult volunteers.
  • Able and willing to affirm and teach Wesleyan theology.
  • Experienced in leading dynamic and exciting youth ministry is preferred.
  • Experienced in volunteer leader development with recruitment of potential leadership in youth and adults is preferred.
  • Able to coach and challenge youth as they explore and grow in their faith through shared experiences including retreats, and missions.
  • Demonstrate the maturity and wisdom needed to provide structure, high expectations, and guidance for the spiritual growth process of youth.
  • Demonstrate ability to earn respect and maintain discipline and confidentiality. Ability to plan and lead youth oriented worship service. 
  • Ability to preach in a way that’s relevant to a youth oriented audience. 
  • Have the emotional, physical and mental stamina to keep up with the fast pace of today’s youth. 
  • Possessing an outgoing and engaging personality.


3) Other: The Director of Contemporary Worship & Youth may be assigned other duties by the Senior Pastor and will attend Council on Ministries meetings. This position reports directly to the Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations.
