Type of Position:  Part-time (8-12 hours/week)


Summary Statement of Duties:


The Director of Praise and Worship is responsible for overseeing the weekly planning and development of the song service, as well as leading the Burning Hearts church body in praise and worship on a weekly basis.





  • Must be a passionate follower of Jesus with a clear testimony of God’s saving grace in their life and an agreement with Burning Hearts’ Statement of Faith
  • Must demonstrate a humble and teachable spirit
  • Must be committed to the spiritual growth of the congregation and to a God-centered Biblical view of worship, including praise
  • Must demonstrate a balance in leadership, organization, administration and creative communication



  • Previous experience in effectively leading a congregation in praise to God
  • Experience in leading a team of musicians (vocalists and instrumentalists)


Gifts and Abilities:

  • A passion to lead people in praise, with strong skills to match
  • An ability to read music with a proficiency in voice and instrument
  • An ability to work as a team player but also be independently motivated
  • Be responsible to recruit, lead, develop and shepherd teams of volunteer musicians/singers
  • An ability to introduce new music on a regular basis


Praise Teams:

  • Recruit, lead, develop and shepherd praise team members
  • Lead weekly rehearsals (one night a week and/or early Sunday morning)



  • Accountable to the Senior Pastor for the overall direction of praise
  • Weekly, create charts for team members providing a way for band members to learn their parts
  • Communicate with the Senior Pastor for the service planning, flow, content and transitions, as well as for long-term planning and special events
  • Foster the development of special music and even choirs
  • Seek to deepen the church’s understanding of praise and its role in our overall worship of God



  • Plan a rotating schedule for musician/vocalist involvement
  • Communicate regularly with those handling sound and media
  • Assure that slides for song lyrics have been prepared each week
  • Maintain and expand the existing song files and slide database
  • Maintain the CCLI license
