Senior Pastor Position:
Grace Community Bible Church (GCBC) is seeking a Senior Pastor to reinvigorate and grow the church while maintaining our emphasis on maturing believers in their faith through sound expositional biblical teaching. Our current Pastor plans to retire around
October 2014 (depending on when a new Pastor can begin), and will remain active as needed until a new Pastor takes over.
We seek a candidate with a strong dispensational theology, holding a Masters of Theology from a qualified seminary with emphasis on biblical expositional verse-by-verse preaching and teaching, who can prepare lessons from the original biblical languages.
We prefer an individual with at least 5 years pulpit experience who, with his family, meets the biblical qualifications for elder.
About Our Church:
Grace Community Bible Church began 40 years ago, and is located in northwest Austin in the residential neighborhood of Anderson Mill, amid both single-family and apartment sections.
GCBC is a traditional Bible church that holds God's Word as foundational for teaching, preaching, personal and group study. Our Sunday School and Worship services have a strong emphasis on studying the Scriptures in order that the hearers of the Word of
God may grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and obedience to His Word. We maintain a relaxed, orderly environment that balances a comfortable atmosphere with upholding the glory and majesty of God. We praise and worship through a balance of traditional
hymns, praise songs, Scripture reading, and in-depth expositional teaching of God's Word, book-by-book and verse-by-verse.
GCBC strives to be a Bible-teaching center, stressing both corporate and individual study of Scripture, in order to help each believer mature in the knowledge of God and understanding of the faith. Our website (www.gcc-am.org) contains previous sermons
and adult class materials which illustrate our emphasis.
We support long-term missionaries through prayer, encouragement, and contribution, and to a lesser extent, assist them by participating in short-term mission trips.
Our Doctrinal Statement:
We seek a Pastor who is in full agreement with all areas of our doctrinal statement, which is available on our website (www.gcc-am.org/about-us/our-doctrine).
We are a relatively small church. We have intentionally decided to stay true to the mission of the church to mature believers as described in Ephesians 4:11-16 and to offer an environment that both works towards this goal and involves worship for believers.
We have chosen not to focus on entertainment instead of growth in the knowledge of the Lord.
Many members of our congregation have been attending for 20 years or more. Most of the congregation is of the “Boomer” generation. Average attendance for Sunday Worship is 50-70, for adult Sunday Schools 20-30, for youth Sunday School less than 10, and
for children around 4-8.
In addition to Sunday services, we host AWANA clubs Wednesday evenings during the school year. Average attendance at AWANA is 35 with about 70% from outside the congregation. With the current church demographic, getting enough workers for AWANA is a challenge.
In general we share the struggles of small churches with aging congregations. Visitors who attend are excited about the teaching and Bible knowledge offered, but are often discouraged by the lack of other activities during the week. Thus, we seek a Pastor
with a heart and energy to lead us in increased church growth and discipleship in all age groups.
Board of Directors:
The Board of Directors is composed of the active Elder Board, currently with four members including the Senior Pastor. Two of the four Elders hold seminary degrees, as we value in-depth Scripture teaching. The Board of Directors are also supported by an
active Board of Deacons and Women’s Service Board who manage much of the general operation of the church.
Budget and Financial:
Our budgeted giving is $2,400 per week, or $124,800 per year, which is basically the church budget. Historically this has been the level of giving for many years, and we rejoice that God has always provided for our needs.
The church property mortgage will be paid off by the end of 2014, which will free up cash flow of about $1,000 monthly for other uses. Our building is located on a 5.5 acre partially wooded lot, with an estimated property value over $1M. God has blessed
us with an appealing piece of property, which we try to steward for His glory.
In addition to the support from giving, we allow other organizations to use the facilities in exchange for a building use fee, which covers the additional utility expenses and wear and tear on the property. The fees are carefully evaluated to make sure
we maintain our non-profit status. The use fees can only be used for facilities and a portion of salaries for staff that assist the guests. This is an overall benefit in maintaining the facilities.
The paid church staff consists of the Senior Pastor, secretary (part time) and custodian (part time). Historically the Pastor has also taken part-time work during the week to supplement his church salary.
