The Children’s Minister is responsible for the development and direct supervision of a comprehensive ministry of spiritual growth for infant through fifth grade children at The Village Presbyterian Church. This is primarily an administrative position with
responsibility for ensuring that qualified lay people are available, trained and resourced to work directly with the children. With that said, however, the Children’s Minister is also the lead teacher in the “big group” portion of Sunday School, and is expected
to develop and nurture one-on-one relationships with the children as well.
The Children’s Ministry program currently includes: Nursery and Sunday School at both services, VBS, summer soccer camp (coached by Chicago Eagles), theater camp, as well as special events. We look forward to new ministry possibilities in the future.
Requirements for the position include having an active, growing faith in Jesus Christ, feeling called to and gifted for children’s ministry in a church setting, and having a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Church Ministries or a related
field (master’s degree appreciated). Experience in children's ministry is also, of course, essential.
This is a part time position of 20-27 hours per week (negotiable) with excellent compensation.
The Village Presbyterian Church is an established church (over 100 years old) church on the Chicago North Shore (Northbrook). It currently has a traditional worship service at 8:00, a contemporary service at 9:30, and a traditional service at 11:00 with
children’s Sunday School at the 9:30 and 11:00 services. Children’s attendance (birth through fifth grade) averages about 80 to 90 each Sunday. Although we are part of the PCUSA we would identify ourselves on the conservative/evangelical side of the denomination
and find our staff in that theological tradition.
We are about 8 miles from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; this is a phenomenal opportunity for someone pursuing their seminary education.
