Director of Youth Ministry



Reporting Relationships:  Interim Associate Pastor, Executive Director and Youth Ministry Team


Direct Reports: Interns (Seminary and Lay); shared Administrative Assistant


Focus: Minister to the youth who have connections to Westminster as well as the youth in our community with whom we currently have no connection.


Specific duties would include but not be limited to:

  • Develop      a youth program which introduces youth to Jesus Christ and helps them      “become complete disciples of Jesus Christ”
  • Lead      the youth ministry, which consists of 7th-12th grade      students, parents, adult leaders, and interns
  • Develop      and implement weekly, monthly, summer and special programs
  • Invigorate      and energize the youth ministry Sunday school program
  • Plan      and coordinate the 9th grade Confirmation class
  • Help      lead, teach and organize the youth component of the Full Circle Fellowship      Program
  • Lead      the (7th-8th grade component) of the Friday Friends      program
  • Actively      contribute, work collaboratively and collegially with the church’s staff      to pursue the church’s mission.       He/she will seek opportunities to integrate the youth program with      other church programs and support those programs and their leaders
  • Equip,      train and serve as resource for staff, youth ministry team, parents,      volunteers, interns and youth in continuing to build and refine WPC youth      ministry
  • Meet      monthly with the youth ministry team in order to plan and oversee      programming of youth ministry and selection of curriculum
  • Reach      out to, welcome and embrace all youth into a safe and engaging environment
  • Support      the ministry of families
  • Encourage      youth to worship regularly, be involved in Full Circle Fellowship, engaged      in mission and regular Bible study
  • Integrate      youth into the life of the larger church including worship, fellowship      activities, service projects and special events
  • Work      in partnership with other area churches as well as Young Life and K Life      groups
  • Prepare      youth for leadership in the Church and to advocate for the full use of      their gifts
  • Other      responsibilities as assigned by the Interim Associate Pastor

Essential Functions:

                Time Breakdown Targets

                10% youth ministry administration

  • Maintain a relationship with all youth volunteers and interns
  • Develop and train volunteers and interns
  • Plan, develop, and implement special events
  • Track youth ministry budgets
  • Attend full, program and department staff meetings
  • Initiate and attend monthly youth ministry team meetings

15% Sunday Morning programming

  •         Serve as a leader of the youth component in Full Circle Fellowship
  •       Be the main go-to and up front person on Sunday Mornings for high school students   

      and leaders

•             Prepare lessons and plan curriculum for senior high and junior high classes

•             Delegate other responsibilities accordingly (worship, attendance) for senior high               

             and junior high classes

35% direct engagement with youth and families, excluding Sunday and mid-week programming

•             Be an available presence and resource with students and parents

•             Call visitors or infrequent attenders

•             Make home visits, hospital visits; attend youth sporting events and school lunches

•             Take a primary leadership role on youth mission trips, retreats, service projects, Presbytery retreats and Dwight Mission Summer Camps.  Recruit, train and coordinate volunteer leaders for these events when needed.

40% Midweek programming

•             Develop and implement midweek programming, engaging youth in areas such as fellowship events, midweek service projects, Bible study and other appropriate programming.

  •        Coordinate necessary volunteer, student and host family teams

•             Make sure volunteers are equipped


Educational Requirements:

  • College      or Seminary degree
  • Experience      of at least 2 years continuous full time youth ministry at one church      (preferred)
  • Understand      and be guided by the Reformed Tradition
