Job Description:

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:

 

To serve God by joining with Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in her mission to lift up the Lord Jesus Christ by leading children and parents to Worship God Personally, Walk with Other Believers, Work for God’s Kingdom, and Witness as a Way of Life.

 

The Children’s Pastor is responsible for the development and implementation of Preschool & Children’s Ministries that develop and promote Christian discipleship for children from birth through 5th Grade.  He will minister to parents of children in these age groups as well. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES:

a. Coordinate, plan, promote, educate, implement, and evaluate all programs for babies through 5th Grade children, including Sunday School, AWANA, Children’s Ministry University (CMU), Vacation Bible School, and other Preschool & Children’s activities or events.

b. In consultation with the Lead Pastor, train teachers, develop curriculum, enlist workers; identify supply and space needs, and plan special emphases for promotion and outreach in the Preschool and Children’s Small Groups.

c. Work with the Vacation Bible School Director to coordinate and implement all aspects of Vacation Bible School.

d. Serve as Director of the AWANA ministry.  Develop schedule for AWANA(ages 2 - 2nd grade), coordinate training, provide up to date records for attendance and outreach, oversee budget, and maintain supply/materials for entire program.

e. Serve as Director of the Children's Ministry University (CMU).  This targets the 3rd-5th graders in the Wednesday night Children's Ministry.  Develop schedule for CMU, coordinate teachers and programs, provide up to date records for attendance and outreach, oversee budget, and maintain supply/materials for entire program.

f. Coordinate with the Lead Pastor to provide follow-up for all children’s activities and events in which children might make decisions for Christ.  Be prepared to visit and follow-up on decisions for salvation, rededication, and public professions of faith.  The Children’s Pastor should also set a personal example of evangelism by leading in visitation, counseling, and witnessing as assigned and needed.

g. Develop and implement a New Life Class for Children who trust Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.  This class is to be for both children and parents to help them understand the decision they have made/need to make, and to encourage them to follow the Lord in believer’s baptism and begin a daily walk with Christ.

h. Manage and administer all budgets associated with Children and Preschool Ministries, as well as identify and communicate financial needs of the Children and Preschool Ministry to the appropriate person or group on a timely basis for consideration in the church budget.

i. Work with the staff to schedule/identify facility needs for the Children and Preschool Ministries.

j. Keep informed on Preschool and Children’s Ministry methods, programs, and administration by determining need to attend conferences and conventions in the area of Preschool and Children’s Ministry, and in cooperation with the Lead Pastor and other ministerial staff, attend leadership and personal development conferences on a regular basis.

k. Supervise and direct any and all Children’s Ministry Administrative Assistants as required.

l. Oversee the coordination of paid childcare workers as needed.

m. Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

d. Seeks to consistently demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit as recorded in Galatians 5.16-26, and maintain a biblical lifestyle both inside and outside the church.

e. Maintains proper priorities in the home.

f. Financially supports the ministries of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by faithfully giving at least 10% of his gross income and maintains wise stewardship measures over the remaining 90%.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge, ability and skills:

a. Displays a natural ability to positively relate to, interact with, and influence the lives of children.

b. Attend Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for regular worship services and other special services as needed/directed.

c. Be available before and after services to families.

d. Maintain a flexible work schedule as determined by the needs of the ministry.

e  Have knowledge and understanding of childhood development and age appropriate expectations of children.

 

Education, training and experience:

 

Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.  Graduation from a Southern Baptist seminary is highly preferred.  Five years experience working in a Children’s Ministry program in a church of comparable size is highly preferred.  A combination of Children’s Ministry background, training and experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
