The Director of Contemporary Worship (DCW) has a deep love for Christ that is expressed in planning and implementing a worship service of Word and Sacrament fitting a contemporary format.  The DCW uses worship resources that are consistent with Wesleyan theology and the United Methodist Church. 


Immediate Supervisor: The Director of Music



To work with the Senior Pastor and the Director of Music to:

1)      Plan contemporary worship services that proclaim the Good News of Christ through music, drama, video and the arts.

2)      Implement the plan for contemporary worship by:

  1. Obtaining the necessary resources – music, personnel, etc.
  2. Distributing the resources on a timely manner and recruiting the necessary personnel to present the worship services
  3. Leading the Crosswind rehearsals
  4. Being a spiritual leader to Crosswind as well as the music leader
  5. Being the worship leader at Crosswind services
  6. Leading Crosswind during worship
  7. Coordinating the ushers and communion stewards for Crosswind
  8. Recruiting and training Lay Readers
  9. Recruiting and leading a seasonal Worship Design Team
  10. Coordinating the development of video resources and other media
  11. Attending staff meetings, worship planning meetings, and other meetings as needed
  12. Communicating and promoting the Contemporary worship service as part of the program of FUMC through media
  13. Pairing to lead another needed ministry of the church corresponding to the gifts of the DCW (e.g. Childrens Ministry, Evangelism, etc.)



The DCW will maintain Christian and professional relationships with all of those he/she works with including;

1)      The Senior Pastor, Director of Music and all other members of the staff

2)      Crosswind and all leaders and participants of Contemporary Worship, both paid and volunteer

3)      The congregation, including visitors

4)      Committees in the administrative structure of the church




1)      Has a vibrant Christian faith and is passionate about contemporary worship

2)      Has a love for the church and is or will become a member of FUMC

3)      Has a theology consistent with United Methodist teaching

4)      Is a professional musician with experience in performing Contemporary Worship

5)      Has a history of effective working relationships supervising volunteers

6)      Has experience working with computer software that manages media

7)      Is an effective worship leader

Is a team player that works effectively with other members
