CHAPLAIN
Chapel by the Sea South Padre Island, Texas

The Chapel is a non-profit organization with By-Laws and is therefore not associated with any denomination. It is run by a Board of Directors. The day-to-day activities are administered by an Executive Committee which is composed of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and immediate past-President. A Director of Music is on staff. The Chapel Board prohibits the Chaplain from direct participation with political candidates and issues except for the right to vote. The Chapel Board has an “open door” policy with its employees and believes in total “transparency”.

The Chaplain is expected to:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Offer sermons for a congregation that primarily consists of senior citizens as well as all other age groups on a weekly basis.
Schedule sermons once on Sunday during the months of April through November, twice on Sunday during the months of December and March, once on Saturday and three times on Sunday during January and February.

Live on the premises and be available to open and close the Chapel daily.
Conduct funeral/memorial services as requested.
Notify the Board of repair needs in the apartment through the Board President or his/her designated representative.
Schedule and collect for all weddings.
Ask for one offering for the Chapel during each service.

Other events held at the Chapel will be the responsibility of the Board or its designee.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: The applicant must have a college degree and must have completed the requirements of a

Theological Seminary that is accredited and sponsored by a Protestant denomination.
Experience: The applicant must be serving as or recently retired from the position of SENIOR PASTOR.

SALARY/BENEFITS
Chapel by the Sea is offering an initial salary of $2000/month. Raises and/or bonuses may be

given in the future at the discretion of the Board based upon performance.
An unfurnished two bedroom, three bath apartment with air conditioning, all utilities including business phone and internet service, security system, and maid service, all kitchen and laundry appliances, and a fully equipped office is included. The Chaplain receives income, in the amount of $500-$600, for conducting Christian weddings. The Chapel receives a separate fee of $300 for the sanctuary and $100 for receptions. The number of weddings is significant.
The Chaplain is compensated by gratuities for funeral/memorial services, and the Chapel receives a fee of $150.
The Chapel offers no insurance. The Chaplain is expected to bear the cost of health and other insurance needs.
Moving expenses will be provided for coming to the Chapel but not for leaving.
The Chapel offers vacation time and time for attendance at denominational meetings.
