Job Description:

The Controller is responsible for advising and supporting the Director of Operations and Executive Pastor from a fiscal leadership perspective. The Controller has the opportunity to influence strategy and be involved in non-traditional activities, such as campus property development and acquisition and capital stewardship campaigns. The Controller will be responsible for all financial areas of the organization including finance, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, analysis, reporting, financial services, contract negotiation, contract management, and compliance. The position is strongly oriented toward establishing and maintaining a consultative, strategic business partner role with the Executive Pastor and the Financial Oversight Committee. The Controller will ensure good stewardship of Park’s resources, protect the financial integrity of Park, and assist in the preparation for the financial future of Park. With a strong eye for details the Controller must be a forward thinking visionary. A planner who anticipates barriers and forecasts future needs.


Key Responsibilities


  • Partner with the Director of Operations on all strategic financial issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the Director of Operations and Executive Pastor based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with Park’s strategic plan.
  • Engage the Director of Operations to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections.
  • Engage the Executive Pastor and Director of Operations around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery.
  • Engage with donors on various types of giving (e.g. online, stock and other asset donations)

Financial and Operational Management

  • Oversee budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, so as to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally.
  • Ensure that finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Evangelical Council on Financial Accountability and monitor the use of all funds.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for the Elder Board, Lead Team and Financial Oversight Committee; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
  • Manage relationships between Park and its financial partners (banks, investment firms, merchant providers)
  • Coordinate all audit activities.
  • Evaluate and oversee all benefits negotiations, thus providing the most competitive packages for Park’s employees.
  • Review and implement all formal finance and HR related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.
  • Responsible for all Tax related issues
  • Responsible for maintaining Park’s accounting and donor systems.

Team Management

  • Manage the day to day accounting functions of the church ensuring accounting, HR and database staff are performing at the highest and most efficient possible levels
  • Develop and manage direct staff, to include managers in finance, database and HR——guide larger multi-disciplinary teams outside of direct span of control.
  • Engage other members of the Lead Team and Pastoral Team——to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures that all financial, database and HR solutions positively support Park’s evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.
  • Coordinate, develop and implement processes to achieve accounting standards effectively and efficiency


Certification Requirements

  • CPA certification (or in the process of obtaining CPA certification)
  • PHR (Professional in Human Resources) (in the process of obtaining PHR certification)
