Director of Student Ministries

Cornerstone United Methodist Church


Cornerstone United Methodist Church is located in West Chester, Ohio (a northern suburb of Cincinnati) and averages 500 in attendance each Sunday. We are seeking an individual to serve as the Director of Student Ministries. We desire a person who is passionate about developing lifelong Christ-followers.  Applicants should be strong in team building, discipleship and leading students and volunteers in serving and missions.  Our growth potential is high and our student wing built in 2009 is very modern and exceptional to aid the student director in his/her ministry.


Job Responsibilities


·         Visioning

o   Develop and cast a ministry area vision that supports the church-wide mission and vision and is appropriate for the target audience (i.e., for students, parents, and volunteers).

o   Communicate and promote the vision expressed by the Lead Pastor and Governing Board as it applies to Student Ministry.  Communicate needs, concerns, and successes in fulfilling that vision to the Director of Discipleship or Lead Pastor, as appropriate.

o   Lead the Student Ministry Leadership Team.


·         Programming and Structure

o   Develop a network of ministry leaders and creative programming that promote the three key relationships in the lives of students, grades 7 – 12 and current college students.  Support parents in teaching Christian values and the three key relationships to their students at home.

o   Programming should include activities for students in various stages of their faith walk.

o   Primary teacher in Sunday Soul and Crash.  Train students and volunteers to lead worship as well.

o   Plan and secure curriculum, materials, and volunteers for all Student Ministry programming.

o   Assume responsibility for recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers to take on roles that they have agreed to serve in.  Ensure that volunteers are encouraged and appreciated.

o   Assure that all groups and activities are covered with leaders/chaperones each meeting time.  At least two adult leaders will be present during on-site programs.  Off-site adult to student ratios shall be at least 1 to 8.

o   Effectively plan and manage the budget assigned to Student Ministries.  Conduct fund raising, as needed, within the scope of church policy.

o   Assume responsibility for communicating relevant information to students, parents, staff, and volunteers.

o   Develop and publicize policies necessary to ensure the reasonable safety and security of all students in the care of Cornerstone UMC.

o   Monitor the health of Student Ministries through trends in attendance and participation in various programs.


·         Developing Relationships with Students and Parents

o   We understand that the Student Ministries Director has a unique influence in the lives of students and parents.  The Director should also have the capacity to identify and develop leadership gifts resident among members of the church and to equip others in the skills required to develop the spiritual potential of teenagers.


·         Community Partnerships

o   Engage in and develop community partnerships that will enhance student ministry in the West Chester/Hamilton/Fairfield areas.

o   Spend time in the student culture in order to be accessible and visible in the community.



Must have experience of leading student ministry in a church setting, have good organizational skills, and a good awareness of today’s student culture.
