Pastor of Children’s Ministries

Full-time, Exempt



Purpose:           To serve Bethany Community Church through the development and oversight of ministries that embody the distinctive character of Bethany through serving children and families of Bethany, discipling children in the Christian faith, inspiring children to take up a life of service, and promoting friendships between the children of Bethany and their teachers.

Reports To:       Congregational Life Pastor

Resources:        Ministry Staff, Administrative Staff and Church Council





  • Cast and implement a vision for Children’s Ministries that reflects the mission and core values of Bethany Community Church
  • Lead, mentor, manage, and support Children’s Ministries staff and interns
  • Recruit, train, inspire, and encourage key volunteer leaders and teachers
  • Develop and manage a budget for the Children’s Ministries department
  • Serve as principle ambassador of Children’s Ministries to Bethany families and the community at large through visibility and engagement on Sundays and through regular communications, e.g. bulletins, notices and newsletters
  • Serve as a pastoral resource for children and their families during times of crisis, i.e. death, divorce, questions regarding the Christian faith
  • Oversee all ministries at Bethany designed for children from birth through fifth grade, including but not limited to:
  • Childcare for select church events
  • Nursery, preschool and K-6 Sunday programming
  • Mid-week programs, including Pioneer Club and MOPPETS
  • Summer activities, such as VBS and elementary camp
  • Family activities and quarterly events
  • Ensure parent input to Children’s Ministries policies and practices by means of personal conversations, surveys, Parent Advisory Council, etc.
  • Become acquainted with as many of the children and parents who attend Bethany as possible
  • Participate in professional networks, conferences and other associations of Children’s Ministries Pastors/Directors to maintain awareness of best practices
  • Perform other ministry functions as assigned by the Sr. Associate Pastor and/or Congregational Life Pastor





  • Demonstrates love for children and a passion for introducing them to, and growing them in Christ
  • Bachelor’s degree required; theological or biblical training preferred
  • Professes full agreement with the statement of faith of Bethany Community Church
  • Experience in children’s ministry programming serving more than 200 children per Sunday; experience with multi-site children’s ministries preferred
  • Demonstrated success in leadership development
  • Able to recruit, prepare, train, encourage, and motivate volunteers
  • Able to effectively communicate and work with church leadership, staff, volunteers and parents publicly and privately
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-directed; demonstrates entrepreneurial problem-solving capacity
  • Able to identify, recruit and encourage those gifted and called to minister to children
  • Able to comfortably step into a classroom and participate effectively in a direct instructional or support role
  • Able to make a positive contribution to a staff culture that aspires to excellence, teamwork, customer service and the ethics of servant leadership demonstrated by Christ
  • Management experience preferred as our Children’s Ministries team continues to grow in numbers and complexity
  • Possesses a cultural competence specific to the Northwest region with experience living or working on the West Coast
  • Mature and growing believer in Jesus Christ





Full Time:           40+ hours per week

Compensation: Full medical and dental health insurance, auto and expense account, continuing education reimbursement and other benefits as outlined in the BCC employee handbook.

Salary:                 Dependent upon qualifications
