Position Overview

The position of Interim Director of Administration (IDA) is akin to an operations executive in the corporate environment.  The IDA works under the direction of and in partnership with the Senior Pastor to provide operational leadership for the church and staff.  The IDA has direct supervisory responsibility for seven staff members, oversees the day-to-day operations of the church, helps to integrate and implement key initiatives, and interfaces with Session departments. With the Senior Pastor, the IDA provides a key point of connection and continuity between ministries, staff members, congregants, and departments and committees.  The specific duties of the role are shaped to complement the Senior Pastor and serve the needs of the church to accomplish the mission and vision of First Pres. The Senior Pastor and the IDA must have a strong, trust-based relationship that results in a seamless working partnership.


Key Responsibilities


Oversight of the daily administrative and operational activities of First Pres

  • Ensure established standards of practice are maintained in all areas
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies as well as state and federal employment regulations
  • Risk management
  • Corporate Vice President for signing purposes
  • Assist individual stakeholders and teams as they seek to participate effectively in the wider church vision 
  • Participate in the church’s strategic planning efforts  and assist in identifying operational implications of proposed strategic directions
  • As requested, serve with departmental and special initiative teams to assist with coordination and implementation of vision and program strategies
  • Work with the communications team to provide clear communication both internally and externally in support of the ministries of the church, ensuring continuity and consistency in all church communications holding to established standards, including graphics


Staff Management

  • Supervise staff with direct responsibilities for IT, office administrative support, facilities, HR, and accounting
  • Facilitate good collaboration and communication among staff
  • Coach and support staff as needed; provide accountability as necessary; assist in resolving conflict or issues in the workplace
  • With Senior Pastor, make recommendations to Personnel Department for changes in staffing structure, compensation, or benefits
  • Manage personnel budget and maintain current comp/benefit information
  • Oversee and participate in staff hiring and termination process
  • Create and maintain systems to help staff function effectively


Financial Oversight  

Hold the overall responsibility for the integrity of the accounting structure of the church; provide senior-level oversight to ongoing operational structure

  • Prepare annual church GF budget in excess of $4.5M with staff and Session departments
  • Work with counseling center and preschool to provide oversight and guidance
  • Prepare reports and provide analysis as needed
  • Monitor giving and operations cash flow to ensure ongoing financial health of the church
  • Interface with lender and ensure compliance for loan provisions
  • Directly oversee annual audit by outside auditors
  • With Stewardship Department, coordinate communications, including fall pledge campaign, quarterly statement letters, and year-end giving campaign

  • Demonstrated management skills and experience in financial administration, organizational development, personnel, and facilities management
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and oral
  • IT savvy (enough) with knowledge of regular business software and computer use
  • 10+ years administrative/management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree

Salary:                  Commensurate with experience


Benefits:             Since we anticipate the duration of this interim position to last for approximately one year, regular time-off benefits (paid holidays, sick leave and vacation) as well as eligibility for our Kaiser health coverage (if desired) will apply.
