Willow Creek Community Church is a non-denominational, multi-generational, diverse church community with six locations throughout the Chicagoland area. It was founded by current Senior Pastor Bill Hybels in 1975. God has taken Willow on quite a ride throughout the past 35-plus years. Bill, the Elders, and leaders of Willow Creek have never lost sight of that original vision of becoming an Acts 2 church. While much has changed over the years, key themes—taken straight from the Acts 2 passage that gripped Bill’s heart in the early years—have transcended individual leaders, ministries, and eras. The church’s mission, to turn irreligious people into fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ, remains its singular passion.

Today, more than 25,000 people worship at Willow Creek’s six regional campuses each weekend. Churches from around the world watch what God is up to at Willow, and find encouragement and equipping for their own ministries. Willow Creek remains, above all else, a local church of Christ followers—a place where people matter to God, where together they seek to live out God’s vision of being an Acts 2 church.  Willow Creek is intentional with balancing missional and attractional expressions of ministry – helping believers grow deeper in their faith walk and providing a welcoming environment for those simply exploring faith.

The primary purpose of the Executive Director of Discipleship/Teaching Pastor is to lead the discipleship efforts at Willow Creek, helping the congregation become fully devoted followers of Jesus. The Executive Director of Discipleship/Teaching Pastor is responsible for building the discipleship value in the church. This includes establishing the direction of the discipleship ministry, teaching, developing curriculum, and providing oversight to small groups and volunteerism.

The Executive Director of Discipleship/Teaching Pastor will oversee a Small Groups Director who is responsible for connecting people into increasingly deeper levels of community and ensuring the spiritual vitality of all groups. This includes establishing the direction of the small groups ministry, recruiting and training small group leaders, collaborating with section leaders, and leading the fall group campaign.

The Executive Director of Discipleship/Teaching Pastor will serve on the teaching team and have teaching opportunities for weekend and mid-week services and other venues around the church. This person must be an inspiring, authentically biblical, and relational communicator. Willow is looking for a conversational, expository style of teaching focused on helping people grow deeper in their understanding of Scripture and providing the foundation for them to grow spiritually.

Willow Creek Community Church has campuses throughout Chicagoland (Chicago metropolitan area), which has a population of more than 9.8 million people. The Chicagoland area is dynamic and diverse—and readily celebrates the varied cultural backgrounds of the people. A great Chicagoland transit system makes it possible to hop on a train in the suburbs and travel to the heart of the city of Chicago any day of the week. The city is home to major league sports teams, museums, great restaurants, and beautiful Lake Michigan.
