Job Description:

Island Christian School is located in the beautiful Florida Keys.  ICS would like to invite you to pray about the possibility of serving the Lord with us at our Elementary School as a 5th or 6th grade teacher.  ICS is seeking a Christ-Like individual who has been called to serve the Lord as an educational instructor.  This person should be self-motivated, and possess strong Biblical morals.  The desired instructors for these positions would possess strong educational technology skills as well as the ability to administer proper classroom management on a daily basis.

ICS Mission Statement

Provide quality Christian Education... to the families of the Florida Keys;... educating: mind, body and spirit;... while developing a closer relationship... with Jesus Christ.

The statement was authored in 1991 as part of a self-study while preparing for accreditation. The components of the statement come from hearing our founding principal speak in parent meetings, staff meetings, and personal conversations. We believe, it reflects the heart and historical culture of Island Christian. Island Christian School was founded in 1974 out of the convictions of the ministry of Island Community Church. During the past 35 years ICS has been committed to the educational, physical, and spiritual needs of our Upper Keys community.

Island Christian School is the name for the educational ministry of Island Community Church as provided for in the church corporate charter. The authority for its existence and its operation comes from the membership of Island Community Church which has delegated administrative authority to the Headmaster, the business manager, and the board, all who are responsible to the senior pastor. The pastoral staff of Island Community Church serves as the advisory board to the school, as they do in their relationship to all the ministries of Island Community Church, as servants appointed by the membership of the church.

ICS Accreditation

The following statement was made by the Florida State Department of Education and accurately represents their position on accreditation:  "By law, the Department of Education does not act as an approval or accrediting agency.  The Department is allowed only to register certain non-public schools and to collect certain prescribed data.  In Florida, accreditation of schools/programs is entirely voluntary and is achieved by adopting and maintaining the academic standards prescribed by an independent association."

While over 75% of all private schools in the state of Florida are not accredited, Island Christian School enjoys full accreditation status by the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS), the National Council for Private Schools Accreditation (NCPSA) both of which are nationally recognized by the Florida Association of Academic Nonpublic Schools (FAANS) and our international affiliate, the International Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (IACCS). FACCS accredited schools are recognized and accepted as such across the country.   In addition, as of the 2011-2012 school years, Island Christian School enjoys regional accreditation with the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

If you are interested in applying to teach at ICS, please visit our website at for more information about our school and our supporting church.  All applicants will need to email the following items to be considered for employment: Resume, Pastoral Letter of Recommendation, Personal Testimony of Faith in Jesus Christ, and Philosophy of Education.
