Position:  Director of Children’s Ministry

 

Primary Function:  Trusting in the Holy Spirit, the Director, in collaboration with parents and the larger faith community, will work toward laying a life-long foundation for children to become whole-hearted followers of Jesus Christ and vital participants in their local faith community. The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible to steward the holistic spiritual growth of the children in its care (5th grade and under) by partnering with parents in the Christian spiritual formation of their children.  The Director will cast vision (with clear goals) operating out of a philosophy that optimal spiritual growth is centered in the family and cultivated within a faith community that consciously stewards key life-journey milestones.  The Director will oversee a smoothly operating, safe, and effective supplemental church-wide program. The Director will recruit and train leaders.  The Director will shape programmatic elements consistent with the vision. 

 

Position Educational and Experience Requirements:

 

  • Passion for children’s ministry; strong sense of mission
  • Proven leadership and management skills including the recruiting of volunteer staff
  • Work experience within Children’s Ministries church staff
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

 

Ministry Responsibilities:

 

1)      Work in coordination with family ministries to provide support, training and encouragement for families;

2)      Work with the Pastoral Staff to ensure Children’s Ministry fits with overall church direction;

3)      Work in partnership with parents by providing them with guidance and resources to assist them in nurturing their child’s spiritual formation;

4)      Oversee and coordination all aspects of the multi-faceted ministry program: Nursery – 5th;

5)      Recruit, screen, equip, supervise, and care for all volunteer staff;

6)      Collaboratively lead the Children’s Ministry Leadership Team;

7)      Oversee all beyond-Sunday children programs and events (seasonal, VBS, Children’s pageant, other);

8)      Prepare curriculum for all appropriate programs;

9)      Help plan and support regular intergenerational worship services;

10)   Initiate and develop service opportunities for children, including projects to promote global awareness;

11)   Develop the yearly calendar and prepare annual budget;

12)   Oversee the Church Retreat children’s program;

13)   Continue strong support for children with special needs.

  • Quarterly: Teacher Training
