Community Life Director
The Gateway Church is a new faith community centered in and committed to the city of Des Moines, IA. We are community of urban professionals, young families, students, and emerging artists seeking to live the teachings of Jesus in the culture and context
of our city. Gateway was founded by our Lead Pastor, Paul Stewart in 2009 with a vision to change people’s hearts with the gospel, to create a new community with the gospel, and together to exhibit, proclaim, and live out the gospel in the world.
Gateway is searching for an associate pastor who will serve as the Community Life Director, focusing on creating healthy and relational environments where participants connect with God and one another in ways that produce spiritual transformation, authentic
community, and loving service to our church and our world. The Community Life Director will have a strong ability to recruit, train, and equip new volunteers, ministry team, and small group leaders. Additionally, the Community Life Director must be a gifted
communicator, as they will teach up to 10 times per year at Sunday gatherings - serving as an inspiring, authentically biblical, and relational communicator.
The successful candidate will have recognized experience teaching and leading in a local church environment. Minimum 4 year of college. Theological degree from an accredited seminary or equivalent preferred, but not required.

Job Description (Full)
The Gateway Church seeks to provide spiritual formation primarily through community. Gateway is built upon a network small, medium, and large groups that meet throughout the city, then gather on Sundays to share how the kingdom of God has become a reality
in their lives.
The Community Life Director will work to create healthy and relational environments where participants connect with God and one another in ways that produce spiritual transformation, authentic community, and loving service to our church and our world. The
Community Life Director will have responsibility for pastoral and spiritual oversight of all assigned groups, training of leaders, and ongoing multiplication of leaders and groups.
Sunday Service Production
Demonstrated experience in successful event management
Ability to oversee set-up/tear-down, tech, music, and service flow
Work closely with Lead Pastor and creative team to create highly engaging Sunday morning worship experiences which include: set designs, creative arts, media, lighting, sound and relevant music to enhance each morning’s topic
Experience with ProPresenter, Planning Center, sound and light production, and stage design a plus.
Discipleship and Outreach
Passion, commitment, and proven track record of reaching the unreached.
Strong ability to recruit, train, and equip volunteers, ministry team, and small group leaders.
Meet with leaders at least once per month to support them in the shepherding and developing their groups.
Visit groups at least once each semester for care and to articulate core values
Develop systems for ongoing multiplication of leaders, groups, and ministry teams
Provide reports on the development of leaders and groups visited
Trustworthiness, deep insight, extensive self-knowledge, and a genuine caring spirit for hurting people
Maintain highly visible presence at worship services and congregational events
Maintain contact with leaders to ensure pastoral care, quality group dynamics, and authentic community in the community groups
Shepherd leaders & members in their personal lives
Collaborate with other staff and elders on pastoral care issues or church discipline cases when appropriate
Make referrals to a counseling center when appropriate
Teaching and Training
Excellent public speaker with the ability to give engaging announcements, receive offering regularly, and teach up to 10 - 15 times per year
Collaborate and coordinate with Lead Pastor to ensure high-caliber leader development, discipleship and missional alignment.
Help lead leader training sessions

Management of training events
Need to embrace Gateway’s vision and have a gospel-oriented heart for Des Moines. Candidate should be aligned with the core theological principles of The Gateway Church.
Must be a dependable, creative, team player and self-starter with ability to take initiative.
Highly developed emotional intelligence (EQ)
Strong leadership skills with the ability to discover, anticipate and correct problems.
Ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
Above average verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to develop strong relationships, especially with ministry team leaders.
Servant’s heart for teaching others about Jesus Christ.
Ability to work collaboratively as job performance will be measured in part on ability to support and interface with other ministries.
Minimum 4 year of college. Theological degree from an accredited seminary or equivalent preferred, but not required. Previous coaching and counseling experience a plus.
