The primary purpose of the Youth Pastor is to introduce young people to Christ; to disciple them in spiritual growth; to train them in serving Christ with their life. We are seeking a person who God has prepared and gifted to take our student and young adult
ministries to the next level. This position is responsible for leading an active and vibrant youth ministry involving youth grades 5-12, their friends and other youth that may be reached for Christ through this program. This is a part-time position reporting
to the Congregational Chairperson.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Must have a deep, secure and active relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion, energy and heart for teens and young adults grades 5-12.
Must show a faithful pursuit of leadership characteristics and a desire to serve God through this position.
Must demonstrate a genuine love and ability to work with and to maintain a good rapport with teens and young adults.
Must be sensitive to needs and pressures of today’s teens with a knowledge of possible solutions and appropriate mentoring.
Must be able to exercise initiative and good judgment as an independent worker who is entrusted by parents and church leadership to oversee and support the youth ministry program.
Must be able to plan, organize, lead and guide projects and spontaneous activities related to youth ministries.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills appropriate for youth ministry including; listening skills, basic lay counseling, an ability to reach youth through social media outlets and other avenues dependent on youth and parental preferences.
Must possess a willingness to work cooperatively with others, to maintain a positive outlook and disposition that is flexible in solving problems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Youth Pastor shall include the following:
Provide oversight of junior and senior high youth grades 5-12. Assure youth groups maintain a balanced program of spiritual, physical, and social growth.
Maintain a well-planned, carefully balanced program throughout the year coordinated with the church calendar of events.
Pre-schedule all activities in their entirety, including post-activity plans. Publish same to staff, parents, and youth in a timely fashion.
Be acquainted with personal lives of the young people.
Provide formal and informal forums for frequent communication with congregation,parents and senior leadership with youth program updates.
Establish and maintain a philosophy of the youth ministry program and publish annual goals for the program.
Continue personal growth and development through conferences, reading, and exchange of ideas with others.
It is expected that the Youth Pastor will devote an average of 20-24 hours per week in preparing and leading youth group meetings, visits, and special events to include:
Attend and participate, as needed, in weekly worship services.
Plan, attend and communicate details regarding weekly 2 hour youth gatherings.
Teach Wednesday evening Pre-confirmation class for 5-6 grade youth from 6-7pm.
Maintain Monday-Thursday office hours at the church
