CHILDREN'S MINISTRY VISION AND VALUES
Adopted by the Leadership of 2nd Presbyterian Church (November 2013)
OUR VISION: Children are 1st at 2nd!
An effective Children's Ministry will nurture all children in the Christian faith. Our prayer is that each child will grow in knowledge of God as their Creator, friend, and Lord of the life. Within our programs, we will create an environment for children
to celebrate God through active worship, grow in knowledge and love for God through meaningful interaction with adults, and participate in missions. Beyond our programs, our mission is to partner with parents, serve our church body, and reach out to the community.
Seeks Christ First: Above all things, Christ will be the center of what we do (Matthew 6:33).
Celebrate Children: Our Children and Family Ministry will love and celebrate all children. We will provide for physical, spiritual, emotional, and practical needs, in order to bring the fullness
of Christ into daily lives of kids (Matthew 18:14, John 10:10, Mark 9:37).
Blessing to All: We will put people first. Involvement in the Children's Ministry will be a blessing to volunteers, parents, children, staff, the congregation and community (Romans 12:10).
Missional: The Children's Ministry will be a missional entity in two ways: (1) children will be encouraged to serve as a manifestation of Christ's love, (2) the Children's Ministry itself
will be an outreach to the local community, visitors, and the church body as a whole (John 13:34, Ephesians 5:1, Matthew 25:40).
Honor Families: In the way we use our time, activities, and resources, the Children's Ministry will be a blessing to families. We will partner with families to actively participate in and
lead the spiritual formation of their own children (Deuteronomy 6:7).
Big Picture: A successful Children's Ministry must be a part of an integrated approach to Christian education and discipleship (1 Corinthians 12:12-27).
Excellence: We believe that all our endeavors are opportunities to honor God and are therefore worthy of our best efforts. The Children's Ministry will approach every task with professionalism,
compassion, energy, and attention to detail (Colossians 3:17).
