Position Overview

The pastor is our front line leader and must exemplify Godly character. The lead pastor is responsible for:

     1) Proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in interpersonal dealings and from the pulpit

     2) Teaching biblical truths

     3) Developing staff

     4) Providing pastoral care to those in need.


This is a challenging position based on full responsibility for BreakPointe’s operation. The lead pastor handles detailed, complex concepts and problems, balances multiple tasks simultaneously, and makes decisions regarding staff and other issues. The lead pastor must be able to establish strong and appropriate relationships with staff, ministry teams, committees, volunteers, donors, board, the Kansas Wesleyan District, membership and the community. The hours required to lead an effective ministry may be long and irregular. Yet it is vitally important the pastor maintain a healthy and invigorating balance among church commitments, personal spiritual connection and family relationships. The lead pastor will convey a professional and positive image and attitude regarding BreakPointe.


Church Attendance: 200 average weekly Sunday attendance. 17 small groups meet weekly or bi-weekly.


Situational Description: The church is located in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City.  We are conveniently located near major highways, roughly 20 minutes or less to most of the Greater Kansas City area. Our facility and grounds are nestled away from traffic in an established neighborhood. Our original church building was constructed in 1978. In 2009, the facility was renovated and expanded by 8,000 square feet, more than doubling in size. The sanctuary seats 250 per service. Guests and church members enjoy fellowship in CommonPointe Café, a comfortable and expansive collection spot. We are a family-oriented and community-minded congregation. Our mission statement is “Connecting People to Christ.”


Challenge Statement:  BreakPointe Community Church is seeking a pastor who will lead us and enhance our collective relationship with Christ. Our demographic covers a wide range of spiritual maturities and ages and is socio-economically diverse. There is a great deal of love and support within our congregation. We have a faithful base of tithing families, but we need church-wide disciplines developed to move to a shared-sacrifice model. We believed we would have seen significant attendance growth and demographic balancing once our facility expansion was completed. However, after a period of modest growth, church attendance has decreased slightly. Lower attendance has strained our ability to minister as we believe we are called. In June, our senior pastor departed suddenly. Fortunately our associate pastor is handling this transition period until a senior pastor is determined. With a wonderful facility in place that is centrally located and a solid core of believers, we feel we are positioned for the “immeasurably more.” We seek a shepherd who can teach us how to take personal spiritual belief and growth and use it to teach others, creating new disciples for Christ. We are excited about meeting the challenge and spreading the gospel to our community and beyond.  


Salary range: Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience. We expect the selected candidate will receive an annual salary between $60,000 and $85,000 along with benefits, including health insurance.
