Job Description:

Pastor of Chaplaincy:Independent Christian Church in Central Illinois is seeking candidates for a Pastor of Chaplaincy (F-T). Primary responsibilities will be centered around chaplain care at a local hospital (a subcontracted service and partnership). Responsibilities include pastoral care to hospital staff, patients, and their families, as well as development, oversight and administration of a comprehensive chaplaincy care ministry. Once the hospital program is developed and thriving, she/he will be expected to explore additional chaplaincy opportunities within the community. This position requires the ability to respond to urgent pastoral requests. She/he must present a professional and comforting demeanor when providing care; specifically amidst traumatic circumstances. This person must be relational and able to work well with people of all ages and from a variety of educational, social, and spiritual backgrounds.

Qualifications: This position requires a well trained professional committed to Jesus Christ and to facilitating and enabling ministry through chaplaincy - will have accepted Christ as the leader and forgiver or his or her life - proven chaplaincy, counseling, or ministry experience - a minimum of a baccalaureate degree – clears all background checks and screenings as required

Additional Skills: In addition to the qualifications, experience or knowledge in the following areas is beneficial - strong Biblical knowledge foundation - administrative skills and experience - professional counseling or psychology

Essential Job Functions: General oversight of the Chaplaincy Ministry including (but not limited to) -Oversight of hospital chaplaincy and spiritual care of patients, staff, and their families

-Arrange rounds to all patients requesting routine chaplain visits – within 24 hours

-Arranges response to urgent pastoral requests face-to-face within one hour of the request – this will require the Pastor of Chaplaincy to live within 45 minutes of DMH, able to be at the hospital within one hour of an emergency call, when on call

-Promote interaction and support for other clergy visiting patients or staff

-Act as liaison between hospital leadership and church leadership

-Provide educational programs to staff and community bi-annually

-Participate in Hospital Ethics Committee – attending monthly meetings and ethics consults when applicable

-Recruit, train, manage, and schedule volunteers and part-time staff to ensure continuous, 24-hour chaplain service to hospital

-Provide regular reports to supervisor and periodic reports to leadership as requested

-Adhere to codes of conduct, confidentiality, and work covenants

-Ensure chaplain staff and volunteers meet all background checks and screenings as required

-Explore, develop, and implement other chaplaincy opportunities in the community

-Perform other related work (ministry and administrative) as required or requested

-This is church pastoral position but not a pulpit/preaching position
