ELIM BAPTIST CHURCH is an inner-city church located on the northwest side of Detroit. Although Detroit is going through a very difficult season economically, Elim Baptist Church is weathering the storm and has a vision of ministering to the lost and hurting in Detroit and beyond. This church has a rich history with a nicely maintained and debt-free facility, plenty of parking and a sanctuary seating more than 300. Elim is an evangelical, Bible-teaching church with a mission of reaching the lost and discipling believers to impact the world.
JOB OVERVIEW We are seeking an experienced servant leader, with the passion and skill to provide the spiritual leadership needed to carry out the church’s mission and vision. This person will have experience and a strategic plan for driving church growth. He will also have strong communication and leadership skills, a track record for developing new leaders, a passion for reaching people for Christ, and a proven ability to motivate others to be a part of God’s redemptive work. He will need to understand and work with Elim’s Deacon and Church boards and our existing partnerships with Converge MidAmerica and Converge Worldwide.
Respond to Jesus Christ’s direction and oversee the spiritual development of the church body.
Proclaim God’s Word for life transformation, fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Effectively teach and communicate God’s Word in a variety of settings.
Shepherd and develop ministry leaders and the church body.
Identify and communicate clear goals and effective strategies to achieve them.
Ability to bridge the gap between generations.
Employ current technology for effective ministry.
Oversee discipleship of ministry leaders and the church body.
Develop a plan for church growth -- spiritually, numerically and financially.
Strengthen current ministries and oversee development and implementation of new ministries to meet the needs of the congregation and community in accordance with the church’s mission.
The Senior Pastor should possess the following qualities:
Able to communicate conversion experience (Must be a Christian according to the Bible).
Attitudes and behaviors guided by Biblical principles including, but not limited to, qualifications listed in I Timothy 3:1-7.
Energy and passion in implementing ministry.
Demonstrates commitment to spiritual growth and a strong devotional and prayer life.
A strong encourager with a love for people, who is open and accessible to the membership.
Effective at interpersonal communication both as a listener and a speaker.
Able to develop and employ the unique strengths of others.
Minimum of two years of experience as a pastor in a church with more than 100 people in attendance, working with a Deacon Board (preferred).
Must be an evangelical conservative Baptist minister ordained with a degree from an accredited seminary or Bible College (Masters of Divinity preferred).
