Director of Finance and Operations, Colonial Church
Reports to: Senior Minister
Classification: Full time, Exempt
Role: To direct all administrative functions to support Colonial Church and Colonial Church Foundation operations.
Key contact to Church Leadership through close working association with the Senior Minister and staff, involvement in the Foundation, Finance, Human Resources, Building and Grounds, Stewardship and Building and Design committees.
Maintain business infrastructure and relationships with banking, legal, accounting, insurance, risk, compliance and employee benefit advisors.
Supervise administrative staff.
Finance Manager - Prepare annual budget and ensure that all financial information is reported accurately, transparently and regularly in accordance with solid accounting principles, sound cash management practices and
achievable financial goals for the lay leadership for Colonial Church and Foundation. Direct communication with
financial vendors (Auditors, Bank, Database management). Evaluate all financial commitments and contracts. Oversee the interaction between Colonial Church, the Colonial Church Foundation (endowment) and Colonial Seniors (C-Corp relationship with
Waters of Edina Assisted Living Community).
Human Resources Manager - Manage human resources function for all employees (currently around 30). Evaluate and implement employee benefit plans annually including health and disability plans, payroll, 403B plan and paid
time off plans. Maintain and edit Human Resources policies as required.
Manage process for New Hires and Departing employees. Assist
senior minister with staffing, training, evaluation and compensation plans.
Supervisor - Supervise four direct reports:
Facilities Manager, Accounting Associate, Media and Technical Associate and Administrative Assistant.
Monitor work loads, measure progress and provide annual review.
Participate in overall staffing discussions for ministry support. Lead Administrative Staff meetings and encourage cross functional training and support.
Colonial Church Foundation - Staff Liaison for Foundation documentation, budgeting, and accounting details.
Minimal connection to Colonial Seniors and The Waters of Edina Assisted Living Community.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in finance, accounting, human resources and management.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Visible leadership skills including conceptual and analytical thinking.
- Organization aimed at implementation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Familiarity or experience in church setting with the expectation of participating in the general life of the Colonial Church community as a faithful Christian.
