Children’s Ministry Director


Christ First Baptist Covina,, is a multi-generational church in the heart of beautiful San Gabriel Valley, 10 minutes from Azusa Pacific University and 30 minutes from downtown LA. We are a community of 350 average weekly attendees (averaging 50 children) sold out to reaching our 8 to 15 ( We currently run 9am Classic and 11am Modern style worship services, and we’re just beginning to plan a second modern service. We exist to equip every generation to reach their relational world for Christ.


Position Summary:

Create a healthy and growing “Orange” ( organization of elementary volunteers who serve birth – 5th grade children weekly. “Upstreet”: Organize and lead all the parts, resources and people to carry out dynamic large and small groups led by adult and teenage leaders. “Kidstuf”: Organize and lead all the parts, resources and people to carry out a well-executed and dynamic monthly stage production designed for kids and parents. This person will work with the Youth Pastor and will report directly to the Lead Pastor.


Hours: 30 hours/week

Opportunity to grow into a FT position.


Essential Functions:

? Lead within the vision, strategy, and values of Christ First Covina.

? Champion our groups movement, where adults are in the lives of every elementary kid. Small Group Leaders (SGL) are: present, creating safe places, partnering with parents, making it personal, and moving them out.

? Build/expand a growing leadership team that will support the growing needs of the volunteers

? Organize regular connection/training events for leaders and volunteers

? Oversee the volunteer schedule

? Oversee ongoing recruiting efforts for volunteers

? Collaborate with facilities staff to ensure spotless environments and effective delivery of curriculum, supplies and resources

? Champion clear, effective and consistent communication to leaders and volunteers

? Champion clear, effective and consistent communication to parents in collaboration with the church communication strategies

? Take active role in planning and executing family camp, summer camp, VBS and other events, including some church­-wide events

? Continue to grow in your leadership capacity through books, collaboration and conferences.


Minimum Job Requirements:


? Bachelor’s degree ? Equivalent experience



? Minimum of 3 years experience leading in Kids Ministry; record of leading events/programs with 75+ kids in attendance and 20+ leaders/volunteers ? Ability to develop and lead adult staff and leaders who in turn organize and lead the ministry

? Candidate must have an authentic, active walk with Christ and exhibit Christ-­like character. ? Candidate must thrive in a team environment and recognize the need for collaboration (no lone­ rangers) ? Candidate must be visionary, able to rally the troops toward a common goal ? Candidate must be flexible and willing to take risks. Ministry environments are constantly changing and tactics to organize volunteers and execute effective services need to adapt to these changes ? Candidate must be highly organized with the ability to troubleshoot, dream big and have a strong eye for detail ? Familiarity with 252 Basics curriculum is a plus.
