General Description

Manage specific areas of the music ministry at Immanuel Bible Church, under the leadership and supervision of the Pastor of Music and Worship, but with a great deal of autonomy and authority in assigned areas.  The primary emphasis will be to provide, in cooperation with the Music and Worship Pastor, a ministry in music that will encourage, develop, and sustain an atmosphere for active worship by all congregants.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

-      A committed Christian who is deepening their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and modeling this to others

-      An ability to humbly lead in specific areas with minimal supervision.  An ability to follow in all other areas with humility and grace

-      An agreement with Immanuel’s view of worship and the role of music in the practice of worship

-      A solid understanding of theology and an agreement with Immanuel’s statement of faith.  Also an ability to articulate and defend the tenets of our faith

-      Demonstrated abilities to lead in congregational worship; lead and rehearse the adult choir for worship services and special events; conduct an orchestra; and lead a worship band ensemble

-      Demonstrated basic proficiency on keyboard

-      Demonstrated vocal skills

-      An educational background that includes formal musical training or equivalent experience

-      Effective communication and interpersonal relations skills to establish collaborative working relationships

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

-      A Bachelor’s Degree in Music is preferred, but at least 3 years of experience leading adult choirs

-      A working knowledge of “Finale” or another notation software product

-      Formal theological or Bible training

-      An ability to develop, organize, and mentor rhythm (band) instrumentalists that can serve on various worship teams as needed


Primary Responsibilities

-      Assist in leading weekly rehearsals as directed by the Pastor for Music and Worship 

-      Assist in rehearsals for special services and productions

-      Lead corporate worship services on a recurring basis

-      Provide musical guidance for individual musicians

-      Assist in selecting music and worship service planning

-      Lead the production of certain special concerts and projects

-      Provide input to and oversee relevant budget areas under Music & Worship

-      Serve on the worship council

-      Participate in weekly music staff and worship planning meetings

-      Enthusiastically accept other music and ministry-related duties that may be required
