Full-time Student Ministries Pastor


We are looking for a visionary, motivated individual who is called to champion the vision and values of Evangelical Free Church of Chico (EFCC) within our local community.  The ideal candidate will have a proven leadership track record, as this person will be instrumental in leading EFCC forward in ministering to our Junior and Senior High Students.


We are looking for a strong communicator, with an obvious passion for and a growing, deepening relationship with Christ.  A commitment to reaching the unchurched as well as challenging youth to grow in their relationship with Christ is crucial.  The primary focus of youth ministry at EFCC is concentrated on discipleship with a blend of activities and events with the emphasis being focused on the Word of God. The goal of the student ministries pastor is to provide a safe Christian environment that encourages youth to share ideas, build relationships and to develop a faithful Christian life.  The means toward this goal includes equipping parents to disciple their own children and to be involved in reaching out and including non-Christian students.


Ministry Qualifications:

  • BA or Masters, or equivalent experience (Bible school and/or seminary training preferred)
  • affiliated with the EFCA, or willing to be affiliated with the EFCA within first four years on staff at EFCC
  • must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry, preferably in the context of a large church
  • exceptional project management skills (including leadership of large events)
  • experienced with attracting volunteers and building teams
  • gifted in leadership, evangelism and seeing people outside the faith come to know Christ

  • excellent written and verbal communication, conflict management and computer skills

  • has a passion for youth and their families

  • knows how to empower others in leadership and delegate accordingly
  • experience in creating environments that are relevant to outsiders
  • fully committed to the vision, values and ministries of EFCC
  • a team player who is protective of other staff and supportive of overall leadership decisions


Ministry Responsibilities:

  • maintain and grow existing Sunday and Mid-week services
  • be an advocate for youth and educate the congregation about the concerns and needs of youth at EFCC and the community
  • contact and follow-up with all students and their parents
  • counsel with students and their parents as needed
  • develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach
  • identify, recruit, train and equip a team of volunteers who work with youth and share in leadership
  • mentor youth in developing their leadership skills
  • communicate in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources to insure communication with church staff, leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole
  • be available to youth in a variety of ways, i.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, etc., to encourage students and their parents
  • be aware of resources for developing the youth ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities
  • coordinate and plan the student ministry curriculum
  • networking with other area youth directors/pastors
  • develop strategic long and short term ministry plans in accordance with the mission and values of EFCC, review and evaluate quarterly
  • ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios
  • ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings



Other Responsibilities:

  • manage budget
  • attend pastoral meetings
  • attend staff meetings
  • attend church-wide events
  • attend newcomer luncheons and membership meetings
  • assist with pulpit supply
  • carrying out other assignments as directed by the Senior Pastor
  • report directly to Senior Pastor


Compensation Package:

  • starting salary from $48-53 K, depending on education and experience
